As societies become increasingly "Orwellian", the joke, which is absurd superficially, also contains an undercurrent of tension, because such an event no longer seems quite as absurd as it might have been 20 years ago.
Interesting take, but completely opposite of the current reality. Given the proliferation of unusual and sometimes stupid name spellings, this scenario seems far less likely today than it would have in a more conservative past.
