DAN is a lot more then travel insurance and if you travel and dive you NEED the basic policy. Heck if you dive period you need that policy unless your diving less then a mile from a deco chamber.

That is great advice! I'm an amateur diver, so I definitely appreciate this! Thanks!

If you have an accident while diving say an uncontrolled ascent and you NEED a deco chamber. They will charter planes that will fly you at 100 feet to the nearest deco chamber.

There are a bunch of nice spots near Port Allen where our boat was harbored. One we particularly enjoyed was "Hale O'Hona" or home of the turtles. Tons of turtles about waiting to get cleaned by the surgeonfish.

If you are willing to spend the time and money on an all-day excursion, I recommend Mana Crack around the western tip of the island along the Na-Pali coast and another to Ni'ihau, a small island to the west of Kauai. Give me a minute and I'll go snaffle a few picks I posted on WUS....

There, a Galapagos Shark at a spot on Ni'ihau called Vertical Awareness:

This is why they call it Vertical Awareness:

Looking up from the same place:

Another dive, this swim-thru aptly named TV Cave:

Beautiful! When my wife and I dove in Kauai, we wanted to do Ni’hau but unfortunately the weather did not hold up 🙁

Every time I hear ‘Hawaii’, I tear up 🙁 As posted on this forum before, my family travel there yearly to do all our water sports, diving included. These last couple of years of the pandemic lockdown has been painful. The best dive we had was a mantra ray night dive on the Big Island. Although a bit artificial, the reality of getting to see these majestic creatures was just jaw dropping.

In terms of watches, I travel exclusively with Seiko. My solar PADI is my dedicated water sport/diving water and my now somewhat modded Turtle; added a simple second time zone tracker, is my dedicated travelling watch.

Recommendation take any watch, you will pay more than to repair the watch in car rental fees. Good luck and enjoy your dives.

Yes, I may have been a little more clear; I was speaking about Travel Insurance through DAN, the kind that covers lost baggage and missed flights.

DAN membership comes with a basic level of insurance and I honestly can't remember the terms but it covers some expenses for accidents that occur while diving. The cost is something like $55/family/year and includes the most beautiful magazine I've seen in a while (quarterly). You can buy additional insurance that covers major expenses for accidents that occur while diving. I've know a guy that got chambered in San Pedro and it covered everything. It costs $75/person/year.

I just wanted to point out that if you dive, regular trip insurance may not cover you. I wasn't aware until I buried myself in the fine print. BTW, even though the front page says they cover covid-related expenses, the fine print excludes pandemics. Fortunately, by the next time we travel, we will be fully vaccinated so no worries.

I'm missing the diving, specially these days.
We had a lice-aboard in the Maldives booked for the Easter week, but the travel restrictions in the Netherlands are getting so complicated that we could not make it...

I was there last summer and it was amazing ! manta rays and whale sharks included !

For quite some time I've given up diving with the "good" watches. This sport is too brutal out of the water. These days I'm partial to this Helson for the actual diving:

And I also travel with one of the "good" ones for evenings and that. Usually my SD:

But this time I was planning on taking my new-to-me PO with me:

Let's hope that for the Summer I'll still manage to do something underwater...

Interesting in the lineup photo that the Rolex looks modest in size. Is it the 40mm or 43mm?

It’s a 1993 Sea Dweller 16600 tritium. 40mm. The dial is smaller than most 40mm cased watches. Perhaps from the thicker crystal for 4000 foot pressures. Just back from service at RSC Dallas. Water tested and ready to go.

Definitely not the ones which are on leather straps!
The one orange strap is a waterproof Hirsch

I like the 40mm size. Nice! If it's serviced, I'd say it's time to wear it. That's look good on the beach.

I’d take the one you want to make the most memories with. If it was me, that SD or PO would get the call. Nice diver collection!

The agony of choice!

To hell with choice! The entire collection takes less space than a shoe, take 'em all 😉
