OK, so a rather tenuous link to watches! On a watch related visit to Switzerland the other week I took this photograph on the train, it was complete luck that the composition ended up rather well to my untrained eye. I thought I would share this image and would welcome any comments![IMG]

Oddly "Leaves on the line" is not an excuse I've ever heard in Switzerland, and nor are the trains ever late.

Very true. As an Englishmen I still get a bit excited when the train leans in to the corners! Looking out of the window is a lot better as well, although I am always surprised by the amount of graffiti, I guess it's everywhere.

You did well to have achieved such a composition. I have uploaded a picture of one of the trains we rode on during our Geneva trip in '12. I believe they travel at about 150 kph, For watch content, I included a picture of the watch I wore on that trip. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

I lived in Nyon for 4 years, the next big village along from Geneva...here's some pics of colder times in 2011, with wind chill it was -35!

And yes that's someone skating along the pavement!.

Fantastic photos, thanks for sharing. Canuk, the composition was absolute luck, the train was moving! Enjoyed seeing your photos, especially the railway pocket watch, very appropriate.

Amazing photographs Alpha, Although Switzerland is enchanting in the snow I have been in the summer and found it equally beautiful. The second image really captures that well, and the third image, well I would have been over the moon with that!

Not Switzerland, but Scotland. The Jacobite Train which appeared in a Harry Potter movie, as it crosses over the Glenfinnan Viaduct. We rode on this train over this viaduct in 2008 during a tour of Scotland. Wish I could say this had been my picture.

I expect most people who have tried taking a photograph would be jealous of that photo! Lovely.

As an Australian, I found the rail system in Europe to be like something from another world.

When the express from Paris to Amsterdam hit 309kPh on my GPS I was almost convinced that train travel was for me.

But then the first journey when I got home got cancelled and replaced by buses.

Back to the caR and the Vespa.

@JimInOz at least you can get off the train more than once every 4-10 hours....
We have only 4 stops and one train line

    • Route: Sydney - Adelaide - Perth
    • Duration: 3 nights in either direction

Drove from Sydney to Darwin 4600 km in a Toyota Yaris. Couldn't drive at all between 6pm to 6am due to Kangaroo,s and all. Never seen so much road kill in my life in some places.( if a tourist saw this they would think someone drove a 1000km with a machine gun out the window)

Good move, meeting a bull camel in a Yaris at 150, sorry, 110 (top speed of a Yaris with Andy aboard) would not have a happy ending.

And you have earned my respect for undertaking a journey that only the insane or masochistic would attempt!

My brother rode a Vespa from Melbourne to Sydney to store at Mums house before he went overseas for 4 years. Crazy distances between decent Latte stops.
