TAG Heuer to reissue the Autavia in 2017

I want to believe this will turn up something amazing, so so bad. Heuer nuts have waited years for this. But I'll be crazy surprised if what ends up on offer in 2017 isn't a 45mm tuna can like the Carrera Hublot-01.

Does TAG Heuer have it in them to offer a 39-40mm chronograph?

Interesting, Tag has a opportunity for a home run lets see if they can get it right!! In the mean time lets dream of a 2446 with a silver/panda dial!!

I think the original was 40mm, right ? I am sceptical that they'll make smaller(39mm) now. Pretty cool watch 馃榾

Good catch. Saw this on AblogToWatch today. I think they have a parallel strategy for their +4K watches:
1. Reissue vintage stuff for the WIS punters at competitive price points (i.e the recent Monaco Steve Mcqueen Calibre 11 re-release), similar to what Longines have been doing.
2. Do some gaudy/hublot tinged 45mm case sized, although actually quite impressive high tech stuff, (tourbillon, skeleton etc.) for the Cristiano Ronaldo crowd.馃槈

I actually think they might come up with a cool looking Autavia, but will keep costs down using an outsourced ETA or Sellita movement.

They did release some decent case sized 41mm heuer carrera 81 models recently....

Agreed, I certainly do hope they do more with the WIS crowd at the same time they release the Carrera Hublot-01 etc for the type of person who likes those kinds of things.

Those Caliber 17 Chronometers look great in photos, but on the wrist they're very very tall - it's unfortunate, but they're borderline unwearable.

The 39mm Calibre 18 Telemetre was a nicer step in the right direction; still a bit tall but better.

Unfortunately for both model lines though, they charged huge prices for cheap off-the-shelf movements - in the case of the Calibre 18, it was a Sellita movement. For $5500 or so!

All I really care about with this Autavia is a) it's 38-40mm and b) it's not a compressor case (2446C)

i find reissue's are too modernized , they usually forget alot of the important fine details that make them so enjoyable and replace it with an oddly placed date window...

ABTW just posted about the new re-edition with pictures... not bad i might say for ideas

I just hope they slim it down. Like the new Omega's their watches seem too thick.

Update: The 2446 Mk.III "Rindt" Autavia wins the cup!

This was the Autavia that TAG should have reissued all along, as it's the most important early Autavia to their motorsport heritage, and it's gorgeous!

+1 ... the rightful winner it is, or perhaps I'm just biased ;-)
Could be a homerun for TAG ... IF they get it right. Fingers crossed.

I'm really excited about this watch! I thought I read they were going to use a new TH movement, has anyone else heard the same thing? They haven't announced the size have they?

Now I figure out how I'm going to pay for this bad boy!

Well, they're off to a good start by choosing the best model (the winner of the final 4 was not decided by voting). Now I just hope they don't fall victim to the trend of up-sizing vintage reissues.... but then, dark-ages TAG (i.e. '90s TAG) saw fit to reissue the Carrera in its original 36mm size, so who knows?

(edit to clarify that the winner was not decided by voting on the final 4)

No, none was - the original setup was that the 4 finalists would be voted in, then TAG would choose.

But you could vote on the final four.

Can only assume that their choice of winner didn't tally with the votes, which is why they haven't released the public results on the final four.

I voted for the mk4, but this is a worthy choice.

Seems odd they would let you vote on the final four and it's all a smoke and mirrors, but I'm still excited about the winner.
