Honest thoughts about this? There seems to be a strongly negative reaction online. I’m not a fan but I also don’t hate it. Seems overpriced and I have no idea what “Kith” is

Looks like they are trying to emulate the strategy of the MoonSwatch and Swatch x Blancpain mashup. Waste of effort, imo, it looks cheap.

It looks very close to the original 80s watches but the issue is the price. These are $1350 - 5 times the cost of a MoonSwatch which is crazy

I do not have any interest in these (and I am a fan of TAG Heuer). I can see why some do (nostalgia, etc.).

I received an email from TAG Heuer about these. I noted the following in the email: "For the first time in its history, TAG Heuer fuses its insignia with a partner’s logo on the dial, rubber strap, and caseback."

Hopefully, it is also the last time in history that TH "fuses its insignia" with a partner. 😒

Including KITH on the dial is one thing (that is somewhat expected with collaborations), but changing TAG to KITH is going too far IMHO.

I also think they are overpriced.

"Thermoplastic Polyester" very suitable for 3D printing.

At £15 each I'd buy a few to wear when the weather is too bad to risk my JACK Heuers. And to upset a couple of R-word wearing friends.

I have no idea what “Kith” is
Kith is Ronnie Fieg's shoe and clothing retail business. If you're familiar with Supreme from NYC, Kith is just a continuation in streetwear retail but I wouldn't put them on the same level as Supreme. Hodinkee just did a "Talking Watches" with him a few days or week or so ago. He talked a bit about how the Formula 1 watches were his favorite when he was a kid, so I'm a bit underwhelmed with the whole thing now since it seems like the "Talking Watches" was just a "presser" for the upcoming release.

Waste of effort, imo, it looks cheap.
Agreed, definitely looks on the cheep side. Especially for the asking price.

The price is definitely steep, unsurprisingly it's just the "Kith" markup. The annoying part to me is that even at this price they'll get em' sold and I wouldn't be surprised if these sell out within hours/days.

I used to work in the skateboarding / streetwear retail world and Kith opened up near the tail end of the hype of the Nike SB dunk & GR airforce ones, etc. "quick strike" phase, when sneaker heads and resellers would wait outside overnight hoping to buy a pair. Think MoonSwatch lines but twice as long, sometimes multiple days of waiting, and a sneaker that retailed for $120 getting posted on eBay within minutes of selling for an asking price of $999 or more. And if I remember right they would release one every a month or two. This was long before the days of StockX, GOAT, and other online grey market retailers. Kith rose quickly in this era and then would go onto produce quite a few collaborations with other fashion and footwear brands. But the hype and clout searching that was a part of the whole brand, was just never for me. Kith has done some decent things over the years but, like many others, this one is a miss for me.

hahaha apologies, my age is showing but I'm happy to break it down 😉. Bold is my original verbiage and the non-bold italicized text is some definitions / context descriptions for the preceding underlined word.

Kith is Ronnie Fieg's shoe (a covering for the foot) and clothing (items worn to cover the body) retail business (the sale of goods to the public in relatively small quantities for use or consumption rather than for resale). If you're familiar with Supreme (an American clothing and skateboarding lifestyle brand established in New York City in April 1994) from NYC, Kith is just a continuation (the action of carrying something on over a period of time) in streetwear (casual clothing of a style worn especially by members of various urban youth subcultures) retail but I wouldn't put them on the same level (an idiom that means being as good at something as someone else) as Supreme.

The original TAG HUER F1 was a racing tie in. Not some lifestyle branding bullshit. Not sure I understand. I kind of find the date of release to be in poor taste.

That's why I like the original ones as well and why I think this release lands flat.

The sad part and which is one of the reasons why the release is flop for me, is that the release has nothing to do with the original history of the F1 watch. To put it concisely, it has become a fashion (lifestyle branding bs) collaboration between Ronnie Fieg, the owner and operator of KITH and Tag Heuer. He just liked his original TAG HEUER F1 that his mom gave him, which he speaks about in his Talking Watches episode. And since his fashion company is built around collaborations, a deal with TAG HEUER was struck. Unfortunately, that's it, there is not much poetry to the whole thing. It's just a fashion company - watch brand collaboration.

Good point. Please tell me they never mentioned Senna in this release.

Agreed, great point on the release date. Thankfully, from what I’ve seen, they did not mention Senna.

Here’s how they came up with $1350 msrp.
These should be priced at $199. Flippers will immediately sell them on eBay for $1350. (You remembered the first batch of MoonSwatch, don’t you).

So Kith and TH said “fυck this, we’ll skip the middle men”. No need for EBay Authentication team here.

Doesn't speak to me at all but looking on the bright side, there are those people who bemoan the fact their kids/Grandkids are not interested in wristwatches and worry what will happen to their collection after their inevitable demise at some future date.
Maybe this could be the "gateway drug" they need?
