Hi all, I picked up a 50's Seamaster today at an antiques fair. I had some suspicions about the dial while I was there but it looks beautiful, was cheap and I'm not really a redial nazi so I walked away with it and am very happy with the buy, especially for the cost. I always find the Omega logo text difficult to work out but my main suspicions are due to a couple of other characteristics of this dial - how perfectly black it is compared to other '50s Seamasters I've seen, the lume areas at 3, 6, 9 and 12 which look rather green in this photo although not to the eye, and the text at the bottom which simply says 'Swiss'. I've seen several written like this in the past but not investigated them closely and the vast majority seem to be 'Swiss Made' so I'm wondering if the experts can shed some light on whether 'Swiss' is a legitimate Omega marking. Here's the watch for Context:
"swiss" is correct on a number of Omegas, hard to give precise info. The markers on that one seems to be all over the place - I'd say it has been redialed.
Cheers, like I say I did have suspicions however the markers weren't part of that suspicion. my perception of what is straight is never great but I've taken a relatively straight on photo here in case it was the angle of the original one. I can't tell that they're all over the place but I'm not doubting it to be the case. Looks so much better in person than these photos:
Look at the seconds markers in relation to the hour markers. There should be an even space on each side of each hour marker. Especially 1, 8, 10, 11.
Glad to find an excuse to share a picture of my recently acquired Seamaster. It's from the 50's and simply says swiss.
