Imagine a day when this would just be sitting on the counter at your local jeweler, without needing to be bolted down.

Not to my knowledge. They did produce some quartz desk clocks in the 1970s.

*EDIT* Looks like they did.

Those don't fit a mechanical movement.

The second has a nickel-finished lever movement with 15 jewels, powered by a battery (i.e. an electro-mechanical movement).

The second was an electro-mechanical movement.

It's funny when someone edits his post.

If you want to compare a mechanical against an electro-mechanical, no problem but it's not the same.

It's funny when someone edits in order to be more specific?

An electro-mechanical is a mechanical movement, powered by a battery.

You have edited two times. In your first intervention you didn't say anything about electro-mechanical movement. I knew about that rolex and its movement.

As I have said before, no problem.

I said mechanical, which it is. I was responding to your first post, in which you incorrectly said "Those don't fit a mechanical movement.".

No problem. 😉
