I prefer lithotripsy to any other type of intervention, or to a “natural” solution to the problem. But even that is not pleasant!

Yes, that’s why the part you edited out was important...I’ll repeat it here since you removed it:

“Make sure to find out what type it is, as some can be prevented through diet changes”

    Cheers, Al

It’s certainly not an experience that I want to have again if I can avoid it. I’m scheduled to have the stent removed next Wednesday. Don’t like having it in, but I expect that having it removed won’t be pleasant either. On the plus side, I DID treat myself to the aforementioned JLC post-surgery.

Those bastards hurt. Rolled around on the ER floor for a while. Finally got a pain shot. Must have passed at some point, didn’t hurt anymore after the dope wore off.
    Good luck,

I had to wait 10 days between my ER visit and the surgery. They finally removed the stone 4 days ago. Up until then, legal prescription narcotics had been my best friend.

Actually, I never saw the stone nor did I want to see that little fuc*er. The procedure was done under general anesthesia (thank God). But here’s some alternative proof for you.

Back in my early prosecutor days, one of the other prosecutors (now a judge) would bring his stones to court and rattle them around in a little plastic specimen cup. After getting everyone's attention, he'd ask the local drug dealers in the gallery what the street value of his "rocks" would be. Good ole' days.

I can post a picture of the toilet bowl the next time I urinate, but I’m betting that you won’t want to see it. Speaking of cranberry juice ...

Might be a good time to put up my hand and admit that I have a keen occupational interest in the management of kidney stones.. and they have paid for a few Speedmasters over the years :whistling:

If, like me, some others don't know what those little f**kers look like, here's one off the web. Those jagged edges!
@gbesq I'd reach out to JLC to cut a sliver, polish it, and make you a custom kidney stone moon disc for your post-procedure gift. Guaranteed, you'd be the first to ever do so. @speedydownunder should be able to source you a good looking specimen. :)

For the record, my female patients who have had stones and have also delivered babies say the stones are worse

That’s for sure. Feels more like a direct hit BY an asteroid.

Being male I can’t compare the pain to childbirth, but I have had acute appendicitis requiring emergency surgery and the pain from the kidney stone was every bit as bad if not worse.

I can't compare it to childbirth either, but the closest pain I've had was a heart attack. Hard to compare, as the heart attack was certainly more serious since it nearly killed me, but I would say the kidney stones were more intensely focused pain...
