Had intended flipping this piece, it didn't happen so decided to give it some serious wrist time.
19mm fits snug and just in case it is not visible in the photo it is trench style.
Not usually one to have trouble deciding but this time
Any suggestions welcome. Screen Shot 2013-03-26 at 20.08.52.png

That strap is flat with no character IMO. Something more showing, a burgandy lizard with bold grain, or some kind of Croc.

Certainly do not understand that strap choice, burgundy is a good idea what with gold and the red 12

These straps are always tricky (especially the non-military watches that can't go on a bund strap). Do you have leather glue and a desire for some arts and crafts or are you sticking to the straps with the little fold-over metal tabs?

Something like this may work on the bay: herePurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network (Not an endorsement of these straps or the seller, but depending on how you feel about that diagonal keeper, it may be an option).

Tricky, that's a nice way of putting it. Not a problem with any handy work required.
Have a beautiful Jurgens pale leather nato that I briefly considered and then just as quickly discounted, a real disappointment as I now have nothing to suit it.

If you can get a picture of the back side of the watch band, you can inspect the stitching. On some bands that are box stitched, you can see where the lug end leather that makes up the curve tucks under the back lining leather. (Think about that for just a second, I hope my description made sense). On those straps, you can use a razor blade or exacto to cut through just the very top part of the stitching to free the lug end. Thread it through your fixed lugs and then glue the ends back down using heavy duty contact cement or leather glue.

If you're willing to mess with all that, it will expand your options in a big way.

Lots of great suggestions as to what I should do, and I should say far nicer than I am used to :(

Having seen Adam78 displaying a couple of lovely pieces on ostrich I want, need, got to have - any ideas as to where I might find an open ended ?
Would rather avoid surgery if possible.

I used Superglue, but proceeded to get an asthma attack afterwards! So perhaps something like Gorilla Glue (less toxic fumes I think) would be okay.

You mean you don't just lick the ends and pinch them together? Well, that's inconvenient!
