Strap recommendations for the Elgin

Warning: This is yet another strap recommendation thread. There are many strap recommendation threads like it, but this one is mine.

I'm looking for opinions about what strap this watch should be on. Both pretentious general rules and/or specific straps ideas are most welcome.

My go-to was a NATO and I think it works pretty well but I hate how much height NATOs add. I just did some experimenting with what I have on hand. Nothing fits well because of the 19mm lugs but it gave me something to go on.

I think the Omega 2039 bracelet looks a bit off. Right now I'm digging my trusty single-pass Chevron strap but I think maybe a plain black leather strap would work really well too. I was also thinking maybe a rubber strap? What say ye?

I would love a nice brown vintage strap on the watch, maybe even one that matches the tritium dots....

Here is a picture of Bulang & sons, different watch but similar colours.

I love that mesh. Mesh is subversive and sexual.

I think maybe you have to explain this. 😀

I want to be sexy too!

Two mesh votes is interesting. It wasn't really what I had in mind I just tried it out when I saw that extra bracelet laying around. I think it looks pretty good I'm just not sure I love it. Maybe because I see this as a utilitarian "beater" watch and the mesh is a bit fancy.

I like the plain black nato you've got there, and would try a black tropic.
That's definitely a good look and a top contender. Thanks!

Thanks, I hadn't considered brown. I have a random one here I can put on there to see what it looks like.

Something in red or orange rubber to match the second hand?

The second hand is a bright orange that likes to masquerade as red in photos. I was thinking black rubber but I think all orange would be way too loud for me although it would probably look pretty cool. I did order that NATO with the orange highlights to try and match but haven't actually worn it. I wanted one with a single center pinstripe but it was out of stock.

Oh, I really like those! Great look and price. Of course no 19mm option though. I wonder if the 18mm would work well enough.

If not then the perfect reason to get a new 18mm watch!😉

As suggested above, my preference would also be a black tropic on this one. It helps to shape the rubber with the mug and hot water trick as this video shows.

I like it on a nato, honestly. It's a sharp looking watch!

Thanks! It definitely looks good on a NATO I just hate how much height they add. It’s like the watch is hovering over my wrist like a flying saucer.

That is quite the rationalization! “I bought a $9 strap that I knew was the wrong size. Dang, better buy a new watch to match it.”

Thanks for the link! I do really like that strap and good to know Uncle has me covered.

This is what I wanted with the orange stripe in the center but it was out of stock when I was ordering straps with a coupon. I ended up ordering the NATO with orange stripes on the outside edges seen above in my last picture. I’m trying to find non-NATO options now that get the watch wearing flat on my wrist.

I have been looking for a black 18mm Nato with that orange stripe in the middle for my citizen field watch, with out any luck. I got a black very thin Nato that don`t lift the watch as much as thicker staps.

I was going to recommend Crown and Buckle but it looks like maybe that is where you got the above image from? They do have a 18mm with orange stripe but it's from their "standard" tier. I really like their "Supreme" tier NATO and Chevron straps. They are very soft and comfortable.

This one also looks pretty cool and is available in 18mm. Color does appear blueish in the photo but it says it's black. This would probably look pretty good on my above Elgin but of course no 19mm so I'd have to squish a 20mm.
