Today there was a local "watch show" which I ran into Steve at. Probably haven't seen him in over a year. Steve is wearing a modern watch (ALS?), pulls a project watch (30T2RG) out of his pocket to show me. We're discussing rising Speedmaster prices as well as an 861 movement Seamaster that is for sale at the show and how we've got all sorts of stuff that is now too nice to wear regularly. I mention I've been thinking of buying a non-flown Speedmaster for regular wear and he pulls a "First in Space" Speedmaster out of his pocket and straps it onto his other wrist. "You mean like this?" So I go home and make an offer on a 145.022 and low behold it is accepted. Damn you Steve!
Sorry no pics. Seller's pics were really poor and I'm really bad at taking pics of my watches. Would be surprised if I have single watch pics of half of the watches I have. Even bad at keeping track of what I own. All this caused me to take a closer look at my "flown" Speedmaster. I thought I owned a 145.012 and but it turns out I own a 105.012. D'ohhhhh!!!!! Probably never have a pic of the 145.022 and someday think it is a 3750.50 ......
Steve is pain in the ass sometimes, in the best of ways. Can't tell you how many times he, Evan, or Kyle have helped me spend my money.
Not taking away anything from the pros, but it's like shooting fish in a barrel to be an enabler on this forum... the audience is more than halfway mesmerized already. I say this from the perspective of a fish. The WRUW thread alone is a minefield for even the most hardened veteran, and don't get me started on the various Speedmaster and other specialty threads that abound.
I'm working on returning the favor. There are some watches locally that I'm working on uncovering that I think Steve will be powerless to resist and they are not 30T2RGs.
I'll have to inspect them first to see they are suitable for the climate, might be too humid out there.
We are all asking to be enabled by enablers, so should really be surprised by the outcome? Lol This week I started looking for a new GMT under $9k and low and behold, people are showing me a beautiful Girard Perregaux Moon Phase Large Date GMT that has an MSRP of over $15k but 'they know an AD who might discount'! Anyone know a GP AD that discounts 40%!!!
Face to face cash on sight opportunity. although if you want a Speedmaster Missions Collection Suitcase an exception might be made.
