I have nothing better to do so I thought I would show a few pictures of my dial experiment. I haven't seen this done before, but then I didn't look too hard. I took a flat service dial and turned down the outer edge creating a step. It was my first attempt so I think I over did the step. Anyway I then had it refinished and re lumed. With a bit of adjustment on the cutting It might make a good looking refinished dial. Has anyone else tried this shenanigans?
Have you tried to attach the dial to a movement? I suspect the dial is too high to install the 3 center hands.
All I did was put the dial in chuck and turn down the edges. I didn't do anything else exept send it to the re finisher. He may have buffed it because my sharp step looks a bit rounded. It is a modern service dial that I bought new from Swatch. The back is flat. I had it on a movement but got sick of looking at it without the step. I figured that if I ruined it, no great loss. I could just buy another service dial. Here is the back.
I think that next time, if there is a next time, I will also turn down the center also which will make the sub dials shallower. Now that I think of it, there won't be a next time.
