Just left NYC boutique. Had a pleasant conversation about Omega watches with Ozzy. He also indicated they are no longer accepting full payment for Snoopy Speedmaster. Not sure if this was specific to NYC or across all boutiques.

Each country or region has a different allocation for LE watches; It sounds like pre-orders in the USA have reached their full allocation, whereas other countries have not. Also, I've been told in the past that Omega does not re-allocate between countries, nor do they move inventory between retail and wholesale. Seems strange to me, computerized inventory mgmt controls would make it trivial to move the product to where it is selling, but hey, I know nothing about retail sales, so don't listen to me.

Seems like the earlier posts were correct in that the allocation for specific AD's and even boutiques are pretty much already spoken for. As for Omega not re-allocating possible resources, I agree in that it seems a bit foolish considering how much currency fluctuates. It seems like a sound business decision to keep at least a set supply on hand for such a situation.

My local boutique just took my 30% deposit within the last hour for the Snoopy Award. I was the second reservation at my boutique. Maybe each boutique is allotted a limited amount of reservations.

very likely correct. Glad you only had to put 30% down, which in my mind is reasonable. Still not happy I had to go the whole way, but as @Superdoc said, I'll have long since forgotten and when the piece finally arrives it will be FREE !!

Just put down a 30% deposit at my local Omega boutique for a Snoopy. They had to check with Omega first to see if they were still accepting deposits and they were. Another boutique in the Carribbean was offering a discount on the watch, but having the watch shipped to the US made me nervous and I passed on that.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I don't understand why the dial of this watch was designed to pay homage to old comic strips and a movie? I don't find it very appealing at all. To me, this LE is rather inferior to superior examples like the Gemini4😀 and the Apollo 11 35th.

Snoopy may have originally been a comic book character - incidentally one of my favourite even though I never followed the comic strips religiously - but the dial of this watch isn't just about a random comic character or a movie. The Speedmaster played an important role in getting the Apollo 13 astronauts home safely and in recognition of that, the astronauts presented Omega with the 'Snoopy Award'. The award is still presented to individuals or organisations for outstanding contributions, even today.

Here's a copy/paste from Wikipedia:

The Silver Snoopy award is a special honor awarded to NASA employees and contractors for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety or mission success. The award certificate states that it is "In Appreciation" "For professionalism, dedication and outstanding support that greatly enhanced space flight safety and mission success." The award depicts Snoopy, a character from the Peanuts comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz.

The award is given personally by NASA astronauts as it represents the astronauts' own recognition of excellence. It is presented at the workplace of the recipient with the recipient's coworkers present. The Silver Snoopy award is one of several awards overseen by the Space Flight Awareness (SFA) program at NASA.

Thanks Max. I'm aware of the history of Apollo 13 and the Snoopy award. I think that this was depicted nicely in the last Apollo 13 LE.

The latest version puzzles me. The black on white dial is a homage to old colorless comic book strips. Peanuts was always in color. The quote rising from Snoopy is from Ed Harris in the movie, not from Gene Kranz. "What could you do in 14 seconds" comes from nowhere? The 14 individual second squares is again a reminder of a movie scene and looks like rubbish. I don't get it. I think original owners will tire of this watch and it will be readily available, at a discount, in the resale market.

I realize that Omega likes to reissue and re reissue LE versions. Naturally, I would have rather seen a 50th anniversary Gemini 4 LE. This wasn't done because , unfortunately, Hollywood hasn't made a movie about Ed White.

I think they're saving the 50th LE for summer.. but that's pure conjecture on my part with no substance in reality.. June is not far off!

Not to flog a dead horse, but simply put - do the 14s in a more classy manner than boxes and questions, remove the speech bubble, and nobody would be sitting on the fence on this.

May be of interest to those looking for an earlier Snoopy "fix" than Omega can provide 😉:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NASA-SILVER...096?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a1f9ddb8
US$1,699.99 (or Best Offer)

Lifted R-J's caseback photo for comparison:

The "flown" status, or at least the ability to prove it for individual pins/awards, has been called in to question in recent years.
There is a very detailed write up here:
http://spaceflownartifacts.com/flown_silver_snoopy_awards.html
Soooo many variations 😲 Should keep some of you busy.

Price doesn't look too bad to me initially but think it's already been up for at least one full 28 day listing so the "Space" boys haven't exactly been jumping all over it. I do know Ken Havekotte is very highly respected in that field.

Found a couple of others that sold for huge sums, but did have some Astronaut provenance.

US$2,760 in 1999

US$7,564 in 2011

Not a recommendation, as I have no real experience with these, so do your own homework 👍.

EDIT:
The extent of my Snoopy/Speedmaster collection 😗:
