About a month ago, during the annual SIHH exhibition in Geneva, Omega introduced a new Speedmaster with moonphase indicator. We wrote about that new caliber 9904 Speedmaster Moonphase here. Besides this new Speedmaster Moonphase Chronometer that will be shown in a few weeks from now in Basel, there is a Speedmaster Professional with Moonphase available as well. It has been in the collection non-stop since 2003 actually (click here to see this watch on the official Omega website). That particular Speedmaster Professional has roots that go back to 1985. These are really nice! Are all of them sapphire or have there been some Hesalite versions with the moonphase complication?

Although I certainly admire the technical chops for the new Basel 2016 moonphase release, I have to say this does look a more balanced design and seems a great option for a dressy Speedy...certainly on my shortlist for 2016-2017, I think it would complement nicely my XI-45 and I would like to have at least one Speedy with an exhibition case back to see the 1861 movement...I think a "dressy" moonphase Speedy actually makes sense for that purpose, as it does not have a "tool" watch theme going on. Cheers.
