Honestly, it seems to have all started Q4 2017. I have a feeling the steel sports Rolex supply not meeting demand has led to purchases of other non-Rolex steel watches, and #2 is usually Omega.

My feeling is that it started in 2015 with the release of the Silver Snoopy Award. Since then, prices went up rapidly.

The price of all Speedmasters will increase within a year for the 50th Moon landing anniversary I think. 321's and limited models will greatly increase and even the standard one will probably end up going onto short wait lists at AD's and such. It's going to bring out a lot of potential owners who have been waiting for a milestone in their life to justify the purchase as well as people with a new found interest because of all the endless publicity watch sites will be giving the watch deciding to get a brand new one.

And also I agree yes, when someone wants a sports Rolex and doesn't want to wait 5 months to have the "privilege" of maybe being allowed to purchase it after sitting on an artificial wait list they're very likely to just buy an Omega or Tudor instead the same day.
