Picked up 969 in Southern California this past weekend (following an Auburn win😉 👍), making 9/1/2018 one of the best days of my life.
I haven't posted on here much, but I have been watching you all for the better part of a year.. I've learned more than I ever imagined and I greatly appreciate you all. Some background:
My mother gifted me a Tissot PRC-200 when I was 15, my first and favorite piece. I broke the bracelet at school in 2013 and it has been on the camo NATO seen below ever since. A few years later, I saved up enough to buy my older brother's Planet Ocean (co-axial 8500 45.5mm) from him and immediately switch the bracelet to a NATO. It was around this time I began to research the mechanics and history of these pieces properly. Leading up to my PO, I appreciated the craftsmanship and look of watches but I knew little about the history and reasoning behind every detail. As you all can imagine, it opened up a floodgate of information and I was never the same. I mention all of this because it puts some emphasis on why ST2 is so perfect for me, and I have nobody to share with in real life.
I decided January of 2018 it was time to compliment my PO with my first brand-new mechanical piece. I have been saving for the better part of 2 years and the PO was becoming less practical as I found myself diving and fishing far less than in my young 20's. My free time leading up to 7/10/18 (ST2 reservation day) was reserved for the Omega Forums and countless watch blogs or magazines (shoutout to Hodinkee for slamming another LE in my face days after Ultraman...)
I always wanted a speedy, but I felt it was wiser to buy a comparable, more affordable watch from a different brand than Omega. Nothing excited me like walking into Omega and daydreaming did... I eventually decided it was not in my best interest to force a purchase just because I wanted a new piece and to wait for the right time and piece to present itself. Queue Ultraman.
The morning of July 10th around 2:55 am (sorry if you read this comment on Hodinkee too, i was beyond excited..) I was bit by my girlfriend's dog after I accidentally kicked it in my sleep. I went to get a glass of water and began scrolling through Instagram to put myself back to sleep right as Omega posted the Ultraman debut. The time had come. (as I type this, my body is covered in goosebumps. I love you all.) The list of reasons justifying ST2 as my perfect watch is never-ending. I've always admired the history behind the moonwatch, my school colors include Orange (watch shots in Jordan Hare, please), the watch ONLY CAME ON A NATO AND I LOVE NATOS, and it all happened extremely organically, as it should. I like to think this piece makes my passion for watches and hopes of building a collection official.. I almost pulled the trigger on a new Santos, AHHHHHHHHHHH!
Thank you to anyone that made it through my unnecessary introduction. Happy to be here, sorry for the shots of ST2, I'm still learning.
