I live in Ontario with 13% GST. I was in London on holiday with family last week (I also spend quite a bit of time in England for work) and the OB confirmed the UK price was 4750 GBP and I could get 13.8% VAT returned for a net of 4132.5 GBP. If I convert that to CAD it is ~$6924 and with 13% GST it would be $7824. That is roughly equal to $6000 USD at today's FX. Some real arbitrage opportunity here...

You’d have to declare duty coming into Canada, so that slightly off-sets the opportunity but I completely agree that there are some massive swings in terms of prices on this watch around the world.

I’m saving $800 by picking it up in Calgary rather than Toronto (although I’m managing to off-set flight costs by making it part of a business trip...)

You are right, and I should have shown the additional 5% duty rate as well.

Importing from UK -- Works out to ~ $8170 CAD into Canada (4750 GBP - 13.8% VAT + 5% duty + 13% GST). That is fully declared and legal.

Buying in Canada -- Works out to $9017 CAD ($7980 MSRP + 13% GST).

~$800 CAD savings, subject to change due to wild FX fluctuations but still a savings considering I'll be in the UK several times between now and the end of the year.

Buying in Canada depends on the provincial sales tax of where you’re buying it. In places like Newfoundland it’s actally 15%, not 13%, so final price is $9,177 ($160 more than ON).

Whereas Alberta is 5% sales tax, so $8,379 ($650 less). This is seemingly the cheapest price in North America (unsure on pricing in Mexico or Carribean).

Are we talking watches or arbitrage business here? 😕 🙁
We’re talking getting the best price on a watch we want to buy.

It is also an extension to several questions and posts in this thread about selecting the OB/AD location. Omega has shown considerable flexibility in setting the location according to the request of the buyer. In a global world where many of us travel frequently, and on a luxury product with a relatively high price, I don't see the concern with discussing the details around different prices and tax/import implications.

-- I will personally save ~10% on my purchase and this is entirely because of details shared by other members in this thread - so I personally am benefiting greatly and am very grateful.👍

-- by page 56, I think most of the watch related items have been thoroughly covered... 😉

That one has been reserved for quite some time now.

I can’t make out whether it’s reserved or not? It keeps changing.

These arrivals are killing me. I am in the 600's and waiting for a call. Did the boutique only call when they received it?

Yeah I think they get a list of details when a batch comes into store. Patience is a virtue. I only received my ST1 a month or so ago.

You really think I didn't do this already? ;-)

I shouldn't have questioned it! That's my boy, RJB! Don't stop plugging that idea, please. 😁

I am envious of you and @gostang9 for having legitimate business reasons to travel to pick up your ST2 and take advantage of the fluctuating prices globally. If you weren't already traveling to those locations it might eat up any or all cost savings.

I had an unexpected overseas work assignment come up a little over a week ago, but when I wrote Omega to ask about switching to an OB over where I am staying they said it was too late as the watch was already packed for the US. I actually would have netted a lower purchase price if the change could have been made, plus I would have the watch right away, but now I'll instead need to make arrangements to pay through the US OB but likely wait a bit before I can pick it up. Kind of a lose-lose arrangement for me 😀

Just got the email. Mine is on the way to NYC this week. Sounds like a bunch are arriving together. I happen to be in NYC this weekend so will see if it arrives or they can ship it to me...

they can ship it to me...

I was thinking of getting mine shipped, but I was like..."You know what? I don't always get this chance to have that AD experience."

I am taking a 4 hours bus ride to pick mine up when they call lol.
