A guy here in the CH recently sold on a local auction platform 3 TinTin sapphire glasses (casebacks), claiming they were
-a from Omega and
-b dating from 2004.
Now if this is correct, this means that Omega was in the process of making the TinTin special as early as 2004.
The glasses sold for a couple of hundred $ each.

Interesting! Any images of the inside of the casebacks?

These look exactly like the ones on the back of the prototype at the museum, all the details line up
being from 2004 I doubt it, 2014 maybe... but that early?

As the 'TinTin' was introduced at the Basel World in the spring of 2013 as a normal Speedmaster variant, it's highly unlikely that Omega would have invested more time and money into a failed project. So dating the glasses after 2013 just does not fit.

2013 Omega Master Catalog

Dating them to 2004 however is quite reasonable for me. Let's say Omega started the 'Destination Moon' project around this time (perhaps initially even without contacting the Hergé Foundation), with a scheduled production run of 1950 pieces (= publication date of 'Destination Moon'). So after some time (can be years when legal matters are involved) the deal with the HF finally went sour. Omega had to cancel the project and decided to do... nothing.
But still, they sat on a pile of checkered dials and 'TinTin' themed colorful caseback glasses. So again after some years of licking wounds, Omega decided to move on and make use of the 'Destination Moon' remains.
We all know what they did with the dials. And the glasses? ;-)

It’s a beaut! And the fellows in the back don’t look too shabby either!

True by 2014 that ship had sailed, 2004 may be when they started then things fell through @ 2010 and it took 3 years to decide what to do with the remains - that does seem plausible now

WHAT is this 🤬!?!?!! 😲 🫨

And what about the brand name!? Why not Chlamydia!?! It would be more appropriate as to reminding you how it makes you feel when seeing this…

Just wanted to post as I remember there was a question as to how the 3861 bracelet looked on this watch. Now that I have owned both the polished/brushed and the full brushed, I figured I would share them as a comparison. I like them both for different reasons but ultimately, I feel the brushed/polished is too flashy.

The fully brushed looks amazing! more understated and less flashy like you say...

Totally agree on the fully brushed bracelet on the Tintin. I went for a leather strap myself, but the satin brush look is definitely the one to go for if opting for metal. Looks fab!

Thanks! This bracelet just arrived but prior to this it was on a modern 1171 bracelet. Most of the time it’s on a blue strap

It’s difficult to fail with the Tintin. It works on so many straps and bracelets.

Biggest regret was not grabbing a tin tin when it was offered to me by a boutique. Purchased a plain black over the tin tin. If anyone selling one for a reasonable price, hit me up please.
