Mine is 778xxxxx
I believe production has now ceased for the Speedmaster "Tintin"

1. Do we have production dates/years for the Speedy Tintin?
2. Any guesstimates at production number - 400 was a figure I read in a forum post, but unconfirmed.
2. Can anyone add any Serial numbers outside of the 77.764.8xx - 77.797.9xx range

Cheers

77.776.9xx is mine. I’ve got a friend who services and loves the TinTin.
I’ll reach out!

All three sold yesterday. I have one slightly used one left, which I sold new and its come back in that's not on my site yet.

To think back in 2013 I paid £1900 for mine BNIB!

at least the GBP was stronger back then 😁

None of the allure of a Tintin back story/mythology . . .

. . . but just wondering if some design cues have strayed north east from Bienne across to Grenchen:

I don't think so... this is very strongly inspired by Breitling Chrono-matic's from the 70's which already used some of these colors. Additionnally, Swissair is a strong image vector in western europe, even almost 20 years after the unexpected debacle. For a Swiss brand that caters to aviators (or so it says), there is more significance to the red/white color scheme of Swissair than Tintin's rocket 😉

(and I like that watch a lot, btw!!!)

It’s such a remarkable watch, the French speaking Omega management said tiens tiens when they saw it first time. That became tin tin later on since English speakers didnt know how to pronounce it correctly.

Legend has it that it was unearthed in an archeological expedition by the famous Tin twins (famous Swiss explorers with a rare genetic condition that made their skin turn to Tin). Thus they decided to name it after themselves. The watch was carbon dated to 50,000BC. A historically significant and rare piece for sure.

They're all just messing with you. The red and white dial is reminiscent of the red and white pattern found on a Formula 1 racetrack. The sounds of a Formula 1 racecar engine downshifting into higher RPMs sounds something like "tin tin tin tin tin tin tin" (picture the sound in your head and you'll get it). hence, the watch came to be known as the TinTin.

Don't let the snarky replies get you down - we have been so immersed in the subject for several years that we forget that normal people may not be so obsessed.

You can go through all 108 pages of this thread, but in short, Omega started a collaboration and new version of the Speedmaster based on a European cartoon character from years ago called "Tin Tin, who had a moon rocket with a red and white checkerboard pattern. However, before Omega could complete the project, the Tin Tin copyright holder withdrew permission for the tie-in. The watch was pretty far along in production, so Omega just changed the name of the project, deleted all reference to Tin Tin in their marketing materials, and started selling the watch. So officially, it's called Speedmaster Racing Edition, but all Omega geeks still refer to it as the Tin Tin model.
