Speedy Pro vs Reduced thickness?

A moonwatch has been my grail forever, so I jumped at a good deal on a basically unworn 3570.50.

The watch is beautiful, but I'm spoiled by my SMP 2531.80, and the Speedy is a little thicker than I imagined (I like low profile watches, and having a relatively thin mechanical chronograph was always a big part of the Speedy's draw for me).

Any advice? Is there a notably thinner ref on the wrist, whether a reduced or another variation of the pro? I've read that the '57 movements are thinner, but does that translate to the case/on-wrist feel?

Reduced wear thicker...

unless your looking to go into the higher end brands that do thin pieces the Speedy Pro is one of the thinnest wearing chronos out there. Not many manual wind watches left out there, and the auto winding and display backs all add thickness.

Also nice M car 馃槈

The 57 does wear thinner, but it's a completely different watch. You could also consider the modern 3861? It shaves 0.6mm off the thickness of what you have, and 0.3mm of it is in the case. It also has an identical lug to lug to your 2531.80.

Honestly, this comparison seems unfair as the 2531.80 is super thin for a diver as well.

I wouldn't get hung up on the thickness, a 42mm Speedmaster wears easily on the wrist, either with bracelet or leather strap.

I don鈥檛 see any Speedmaster feeling too thick, personally. But then I have a Seiko Samurai that wears much thicker in comparison.

This was actually something I was curious about, how much thinner the current 3861 is over my 3570.50.

If it's only .6mm that's probably not worth the change to me.

It sounds like I can potentially shave 1mm off by changing to a spiral winder case back? That might make a nice difference to me.

You're right, I am spoiled by my 2531.80.

Interesting fact: the 3570.50 is thicker than the 3572.50 (hesalite sandwich) and 3573.50 (sapphire sandwich) because of the caseback and its internal antimagnetic dust cover. The Spiralwinder caseback will make it noticeably thinner on the wrist.

Yes, I believe the spiral Winder case back will remove an entire millimeter. That's no small amount!

My SMP 2231 is the daily workhorse, with my Speedy in regular rotation and would also second the Spiral Winder suggestion. I switched to one of their casebacks primarily to prevent further wear to the Hippocampus on my -68 Transitional, but then very pleasantly surprised by how much flatter the Speedy wore on my fairly thin wrists.

Remember the new '57 watches wear bigger than a regular moonwatch. They have a 41mm case size diameter, where as the speedy pro is just a tad under 40mm. The straight lugs also make the watch sit longer on the wrist, they're a few mm longer IIRC than the regular pro.

Unless abnormally large, a lot of case thickness can be "hidden" by the actual case proportions, lug type, and lug width. Not to mention some of the speedy pro's case thickness can be notably reduced by using a spiralwinder caseback.
