Speedy Pro 145.022-71 sold for £3,200 - value??

Hi all, would be grateful for your views on this please. A 145.022-71 sold today on the bay for £3,200 (US$4.4k or €3.8k).

it seems cheap to me and I’d be curious to hear what you say think. Perhaps the photos weren’t adequate or the description not detailed or maybe it’s clear to the trained eye that there are issues with the watch not evident to me.

I don't know anything about Speedmasters but lately eBay is below anything else, considering the exorbitant fees too, it's really sad for the sellers - it's hard to buy and hard to sell watches ...

The market seems a bit low for Speedys recently and I don’t know if this price reflects broader market weakness or something specific about this watch.

A perfect Seamaster 120 sold for $1500 - a C-Case and a Pie Pan Constellation together sold for $1100 (I failed to bid last second, had to do a verification) - so it's eBay's weakness, they have serious visibility issues, when you search, you can't see all watches either, so it's possible for a watch to go invisible to a wide variety of people for unknown reasons

But this said, I'm not a Speedmaster expert, as far as I know, 3200 pound is normal to me

I personally don't like buying on eBay and for this reason bid only my absolute lowest amounts, maybe the feeling is same for all buyers, and why the market is so low everywhere except UK - I'm guessing it's high in UK as they only see watches in UK and other watches are hidden to them, so maybe they think the market is higher

Hard to assess the overall condition without better photos (and no movement photo!), but the bezel has seen better days. Here’s my all original 1971 for comparison. I certainly wouldn’t sell it for $4,400 USD.

Stunning watch - obviously the watch sold doesn’t compare to yours and you’re right - no movement pics. But even the 1175 bracelet would be worth circa $500 so this should be factored into the final price.

Based on those photos, I'd be afraid the watch would show up with a washed dial.

Due to the lack of clear photos, I can't tell if the hands are tritium or luminova nocturnal.

I think you should also consider that the price includes the original box and case back tools.

to me
any 145.022 (with or without whatever stupid suffix after a dash) should be under $1,000
maybe near $2,000 if real NOS / unsold stock
it is not 1x5.012

Honestly looks about right (price) to me, and not sure if I would pay that much. From the not great pictures I’d put it in Good Minus to a Fair Plus condition and $4000 US would be more than fair.

There is a big difference between that watch and the one @gbesq showed above, or my -71 below, as far as market value goes. I don’t think that means the market is soft, just pickier. IMO

Yep - just to let you know I was the winner of the auction, looked like a good price to me and would have gladly bought the watch. Something didn’t seem quite right though which was why I asked the initial question here.

I’m not accusing anyone but when I raised the issue with the seller (photos and description taken from a Facebook listing) he got very angry, called me some names and cancelled the listing and has relisted the item. I’ve been on eBay since 2003 and I’ve seen it all.

I can’t be sure what’s going on here but the person on Facebook is not the same person as the eBay seller. The seller on eBay told me during the listing that it was his dads watch (clearly not true) and when I asked for specific pictures of the inside of the clasp he said it wasn’t possible. Instead he sent two pics of watch in a hand and said “the best I could”.

Anyway thanks for all your help on this over the past day. I never would have found the Facebook listing. I’ll be following up with the bay.

So having spoken to the watch owner on Facebook he’s confirmed the eBay listing has nothing to do with him - the two additional photos came from chrono24.

Please do not bid on this watch. Also, it seems with the eBay authentication programme funds are cleared before the item is received by the authenticator.
