Lovely watches...I fear they'd be too big on my wrists though! :(

    Dear Respectable member HP.

I agree. This is one of those 'gems' that you deal with being big. 36mm is my 'sweet spot' too.. :)

    Thank-you

Rob, I read somewhere that Omega only produced 3000 of this Speedmaster Moonphase. Is that true?
I find it bit difficult to believe, since there is no numbered or limited edition of this Moonphase. But whenever I see listings in Ebay or a watch dealer they always put this statement.

    Regards,

Cool, thanks for the nice comment! It is the most popular topic on the blog, also got very positive response on it from Omega.

Send pictures of your watch, or pictures of both speedies, to me for a Speedy Tuesday coverage. People love to see 'comparisons'.

Hmm... that's new to me. Can't imagine to be honest. They still have it in their collection so I also think it is a weird statement anyway. The one from 1985 has only a limited production of 1300. The caliber 866 was just 'used' 2000 times, as 700 of them were placed in the Speedmaster Moonphase 'Teutonic' (Mark V-like) for the German market.

The later one, like you have, is just 'normal' collection so no limited production. I don't think Omega would tell us (or dealers) what the production number is, so I guess some dealer just made it up and the rest copies.

Note : that the lower date numbers (Subdial at 12) - on the vintage - "stand on the head"

Yeah, the new one also had flat dial vs stepped dial in 1985 vintage. There are also metallic rings around the subdials in the new one.
I prefer the vintage dials, but sapphire case back in new one enables me to cherish the 1866 Lemania movement.

I imagine Omega would very much like it, its the only watch model that has its own day of the week, there's never been a Submariner Monday lol
