Speedmasters & Water Resistance -- best model / reference?

Hi All

I did have a look on here and elsewhere before asking this but the answers were many and varied!

So, Speedmasters and Water Resistance: do sapphire Pros have better WR than hesalite ones? Are the new ones better than the old ones (the age of the seals and gaskets aside)?

I know the later Reduced (3539.50) with the sapphire have much better WR than the early ones (3510.50). As I'm often in and around water that's one I'm considering.

Thanks

CK2998 as Mercury astronaut Walter "Wally" Schirra was using his personal 1962 Speedmaster for SCUBA diving and NASA water egress training !

What had Wally done to get punished by cleaning the bottom of the pool with a paintbrush??

If my Speedy costs $164 I might clean the pool wearing it also 馃榿

And water was thicker then, too.

If you are often in and around water, a better option will be a Planet Ocean Chrono....

I find dive watches too big and heavy.

I guess a quartz beater is the way to go.

Speedmaster is WR to 50 meteres, roughly 150 feet. Should you dive with the watch, No! can you swim with one, only if it has recently been serviced or checked for water resistance and under no circumstances should you operate the pushers underwater. I have the 3861 master chronometer version and it has been tester to 125% water resistance, and I would not swim with my speedy, although, I wouldn't worry if I got caught in a rain storm.

Ditch the Speedmasters and go for a Dynamic Chronograph - fairly affordable and 50m WR.

The trouble with the Dymanic is that I really HATE the numbers. Kind of comic sans / Disneyland vibe. <shudder>

In that case it is a fairly poor suggestion I'll admit 馃榿

IIRC you wear your FOIS in the shower - what does the Dynamic Chronograph have to go through then on your wrist, scuba diving? 馃榿
