A slight random one here.

Looking to get my next watch very soon, a gift to celebrate our second child.

Have been contemplating what to purchase for a while & have narrowed it down to a few.

The font runners being the Tag Heuer Monaco (calibre, blue dial McQueen version) or the Sapphire sandwich Omega Speedmaster 3861.

Been speaking to the sales assistant I use at local AD (where I bought mine & my partners Tudor from) & have also put some more sales his way.

They’ve managed to price match a recent sales offer on the Monaco (25% off) which is a great deal & I’ve paid a 10% deposit. Until I can get there and sort the rest out. (Baby was born on the 11th). However I’m still not a 100% on this watch.

I saw the Finnies sales last week and the Speedy at 20% off, sent that across, but haven’t heard a reply, now they’ve sold there stock & the link/ offer isn’t working.

Anyone else know of a 20% off deal on the Speedy around? I know it’s a stretch in the currently climate of Omega.

Thanks Brad

Heya -

To the 20% groupon vibe, no.
But to the Monaco, you probably already know this but I will say it regardless, be cautious - besides ol' Steve himself (and not really right, as he wore plenty of others throughout his life) the Monaco is a cool curiosity that typically doesn't wear well as an "often" choice.
Said differently, I've had a few friends that absolutely had to have it and yet all of them ended up unloading it as it was just too "peculiar" to wear often and keep.

Not 20% - but there’s a promo code on the Leonard Dews website where you can get 15% off almost any purchase-including your Speedy. You’re welcome!

Thanks for heads up, to be honest not a huge fan of McQueen nor motorsport, but I do just like the watch & always have. Have tried it on a few times and wears fine, smaller than i thought, but a bit tall. I wore a U Boat for 3yrs and then a Panerai for another 2, both let go due to their size.

The Speedy I've tried on many times and always impressed with it, its just the RRP is too much for me & the recent prise rise will move it more away.

You can get it 20% off from Japan… of course you’d have to pay import duty if shipped, but for the discount you can get yourself an economy class ticket to Tokyo and just bring it back with you on the wrist…

Nothing to contribute to sales or discounts I’m afraid, but one of the watches you’re considering is an absolute classic that can be worn and cherished for generations to come. The other is a TAG.

Without knowing your circumstances, and admittedly it seems like a terrible time to get into debt or spend unnecessarily with a newborn to provide for, I’d definitely get the one you REALLY want, not settle for the one cheaper one or the one you can get the bigger discount on.

And a second edit to add - you don’t say specifically that you want to pass the watch down to the baby when they’re older, but the Speedmaster is quite a big watch. If you’ve just had a baby girl, I’d say it’s time to look at a nice Oyster Perpetual or Explorer. I’d say a Railmaster too, but it wouldn’t do it for me.

Have a Tag Monaco and a few Speedmasters. Both gear watches and will serve you well.
Being an Omega forum a Speedmaster is always going to be the pick here.

But if you’re a watch connoisseur it’s worth having a Tag Monaco in the stable. As well as other watches.

Every collection needs one square watch.

Congratulations on your second child!
If your preference is the speedy then wait until you can afford it instead of settling for something you’re not sure on.

Only you’re going to know what you want, it’s annoying that prices keep going up but that’s the current environment we’re in. This won’t last forever (frequent price increase) but both of those watches will be around for years to come so you’ve got plenty of time to make the right choice for you. Good luck!
