I apologize if this is a silly question, but is the so called "technical bezel insert" a bezel that would have been delivered with the original watch?

I'm referring specifically to one appearing in the following listing for an Ed White:

    many thanks

And Ed White could be ordered with a decimal bezel, they came in three variation types

    T1: 1960(ish) - 1970 (ish)
    T2: 1970 - 1990 (ish)
    T3: 1990 - present day

You will be able to identify which generation it is from Mateo's very informative post linked above

Thx guys. So would it be safe to say the bezel pictured above is a service replacement?

in my eyes yes! I tend to say it is an aged service bezel

Did you base that from the link provided?

Correct. It seems the fonts on the original are more "squashed" relative to the insert in the one for sale.
