long snip...

As an Architect you might not appreciate the Speedmaster...it is essentially an Engineer's watch😝

I guess that is why I like and own the speedyorite - I to am a little more exclusive and on/from a higher level... used to look down on (mere engineers and) Tellus...

...or I am just up in the blue and soon going to hit something and crash. 😉

I think the fact that someone started a thread about a Speedmaster is testament to the iconic status of the "moon watch."

I like Speedmasters. I have to admit it. I own a few.

Last year, though, I sold my 2998 and my Ed White + a couple of others, because IMO the price on them have become too inflated.

Yet, I think I would sell all my remaining Speedies (except one, that is especially dear to me), just to get the chance to buy an honest and all original Zenith A386!

So why aren´t the Primero guys as mocked/ bullied as the Speedy guys? IMO they should be, since their worshipped watch are at least as attractive/ sought after as the early Speedies! 😜

I do it all the time, mainly because the name "El Primero" is so pretentious.

Especially when it wasn't the first automatic chronograph available to the public.

Aha! One more watch that I like and I start to see a connection to my personality...

I don't find the a386 to be nearly as attractive as the early Speedmasters. The Speedmaster has always been understated, (not including LE) as chronographs go, especially compared to the much flashier models like the Daytona and a386.

And I have two el Primero ROLEXES. I am f*cked up.
My husband had a couple of E.P. Daytonas before unloading them for a few Speedmasters. How many mainsprings have yours gone through? His broke one every 3 or 4 years whether he wore them or not.

None. But I got a couple of other watches in the circulation and that probably helps hindering the poor Rolex quality to come thru to its full extent.

I'm drawn more and more to Speedmasters. I'm in process of selling 10+ watches so that I can buy a Speedmaster. My goal is to complete my decades collection.

I did break away from thinking only of speedies and made an offer on a modern Blancpain Fifty Fathoms last week. So I'm only 99% consumed with Speedmasters. 😀

He wore many other watches, but it didn't keep the mainsprings from snapping like dry twigs. Of course Rolex quality isn't poor. It's just overrated and over-priced.

I'm with you on the Blancpain. That's a dive watch among dive watches.

I just clicked on "Latest", and of the 50 thread titles displayed 12 were related to Speedmasters, and 5 of those were specific to the Speedy Tuesday LE. So if Tuesday had not happened, it would be more like 7 out of 50 are Speedmaster-related. I am not really sure how translates to OF being overrun with Speedmaster threads. There are about that many each for Seamasters and Connies.
