Hello OF members, there is currently this Speedmaster ref. 105.012 66CB for sale on eBay. Apparently, the bezel has been replaced with a replacement DNN bezel. Also the chrono hand is a replacement with the flat end and the pushers have been replaced as well. I am curious about your assessment on the remaining hands and dial as well as the case, mainly to improve my ability to spot flaws in these Speedmaster watches. Since the luminosity on the obviously replaced chrono hand and minute/hour hands and dial has diminished very similarly, does this suggest that these are also replacement parts? And is the case a genuine CB case? The facet edge is barely visible due to over-polishing, I assume? Or is it even a non-original case? After all, despite all the flaws, it is a Speedmaster with a 321 movement and a nice looking dial/hands. What do you expect it to sell for? https://www.ebay.de/itm/185746161727?_trkparms=amclksrc=ITM&aid=777008&algo=PERSONAL.TOPIC&ao=1&asc=243597&meid=ac9f8ea11c9546d0991241355a81b116&pid=101524&rk=1&rkt=1&itm=185746161727&pmt=1&noa=1&pg=2380057&algv=RecentlyViewedItemsV2&brand=OMEGA&_trksid=p2380057.c101524.m146925&_trkparms=pageci:f654a99b-9faf-11ed-ac96-3ed3dcba7975|parentrq:fcab48bc1850ad39738a2b7fffffeede|iid:1Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Mmmmmhhh strange sale... This is not a nice CB case. A CB case with facets looks like that: (mine... ) I like the comment: "We are only not sure about the bezel insert, it is original one or modern original Omega bezel insert"... Only. Hahaha. Very good joke. Of course bad crown, bad pushers... Definitely, not a serious seller. Run away!...
The bracelet is a mismatch as well - I know it’s not particularly important relative to the watch head but it’s another indication of non originality.
it says cb on the caseback, but I just really can't make out those facets on the lugs. Would be interesting to see how it ends up, price-wise. My totally random guess is maybe 5 to 6k euro range. maybe 6 to 7k on a good day. but I don't think these are good days...
I think mid case and back have been refinished. Brushing on side and too polished, but corrosion on lower lugs, and marks under bezel do not match. but I am new to this game…..
My mistake, I thought the seller announced "with facets", but no, he just says CB. La Centrale de Boîte made cases without facets, so it could be an original CB case. But much too perfect for me...
Heavily restored watch. It is a CB case but it’s been extensively refinished. The entire hand set is wrong as is the bezel obviously. The pushers are also the incorrect larger type.
Well, my rating would be a new one (stay away). Watch sold for 5706 euros, which looks in the range of a poor example using William's data
Agree with John Steed… stay away and hopefully you did not buy this particular example. It’s typical of a CB case that had the facets polished away. The case does have the wider feet base on the bottom of the lugs which is seen on CB cases. My mother always advised me to say something nice… the dial has nice looking lume. It’s a freaking mess… let it be someone else’s problem. photo of CB reference with facets intact
Thank you all for your responses. I'm happy I noticed most of the flaws myself and was initially tempted to bid on the watch when it was in the 4000 Eur range, but it was obvious that it will get more expensive. Now I am however curious about Davidt's comment about all the hands being incorrect. The Chrono hand is obviously wrong as it is the flat end type instead of the drop end type but from looking at examples over at Speedmaster101 the other hands seem to match the reference. Can you point me to something specific that makes them not genuine?
To my eye it might be neither, looks to be a fake aftermarket bezel. Could be a nasty surprise for a supposedly 6k watch
