When did you sell this watch? I ask as I bought a pro from Germany about 18 months ago that had a pro dial and broad arrows hands (and had miss matched serial numbers on movement and case). Was not an issue as I was modding it anyway.

sold it more than 10 years go and I never made the switch - sold the hand set separately. Mine also had matching serial numbers.

Not sure what you're asking exactly... I currently own a few Speedmaster Professionals, but all are vintage as the most recent is from 1969. Yes, I prefer the vintage models. I assume you are addressing the contemporary versions of the Professional and the FOIS. For myself, I'd choose the Speedmaster Professional as i just can't get pass it, it's my OCD acting up again, that on the FOIS model the small sub-dial hands do not match. I prefer symmetry. Why did Omega decide to make the seconds counter sub-dial hand, leaf, different from the other two, when, in fact, on the original 2998-4 dial all were stick hands.?
You can always return it to it’s original 2998-3 state.....state of perfection

I have both, i love both...
There is no why...

If i had to own only 2 watches, then the Fois & the Speedy Professional would be the winners...

If i had to choose only one, then i still can't decide which one would be the final winner...

I never knew or noticed the hands before. I've learnt something new today, thanks.

Same here, and curses on those who pointed it out. Now every time I see a FOIS I think the same thing: why did they screw up that one hand?

I actually quite like the odd hand. The early Daytona’s were the same I believe.

i also like the “odd” seconds hand. It clearly differentiates the regular time-keeping hands (shiny alpha hour, minute, sub seconds) and the chrono hands (central seconds, hour and minute counters). People act like the choice of this for the FOIS is odd, but LOTS of Speedmasters have historically done this (e.g., the racing models with red/orange chrono hands).

I know the it’s not exactly like the original watch Wally Schirra wore (which inspired the FOIS edition) and some object to that, but this is not meant to be a faithful copy - it’s a modern interpretation of a historical model.

Agreed.
Doesn't bother me at all.

I think it helps people to wise up to which hand does what quickly which for a tool watch is a plus. We seriously get posters on here from time to time asking if their Speedy is broken because the second hand doesn’t move in normal use (they of course are referring to the chrono second). An easy mistake if you are used to the 3 hand layout and expect the sub dials to be the additional feature. I’d prefer all the hands to be polished darts but can live with it as it is.

I agree. I see the specialized handsets as a more subtle version of what the bigeye watches achieve by way of enlarging the minute counter. Also a reason why the occasionally less legible running seconds on the FOIS doesn't bother me -- the chrono second, minute and hour counter are all highly legible to me by comparison. I actually use the chrono function pretty regularly and can read it at a glance. It's about functionality over symmetry. I appreciate that in a tool watch.

As a die hard aviation & spaceflight fan, IMHO the re-edition 2012 FOIS should have come with some kind of DON bezel...
Maybe 1962-2022 might be an opportunity to get it right for 60th anniversary and make it available with Cal 321 and those alpha hands ? 👎
.
I think the new one for 2021 will have new movement and a don bezel.

I think there won't be a new one, as "Ed White" already exists and couldn't coexist with it.
It has been discontinued for good, not planning an updating as it is happening with the Pro.
