I've been opportunistically stalking one of these for a while. A bit of a departure from my usual territory with a speedy in a giant tonneau case, but mine's destined for a gift.... to my Dad. This was his first nice watch, and it was stolen when our house was burglarized way back when. He took the insurance money and paid for more practical things for me and my brothers. It's time that we replaced his Mark ii.

So, how'd I do? Is this sucker really in minty, original condition or has it seen some parts substitution? It passed my smell test, but I'm inching out on a limb with this one. Don't hold back.

    That's delicious!

I can't see anything wrong with it (is that a gouge on the caseback at 12 or is it reflections/lighting?)

The dial is especially good as the tritium has hardly aged, must have spent a long time in the box.

And the 1159/154 bracelet is a bonus, very hard to find these days.

I'd be a very happy Dad indeed :D

    Looks great

Looks like its had a very easy life and in super condition, even the movement looks as new. I'm guessing its had a service fairly recently as the hands are exceptionally white for them to be original vintage, although they do match the rest of the dial, quite amazed.

1159 is a very nice bonus especially with those extra links, gives a true 60's feel. I wish I had some extra links for my 1159 as they seem to be quite hard to find.

Its nice to see the original paperwork and box too

Seems a very nice complete set! The pictures' quality is very bad though with all small details removed so I'm not sure if the watch still has its original finish on the case or it's been rebrushed/polished. Either way still a very nice set!

I'd think your Dad should be delighted with that.
Is it something that's been discussed much in the years since the burglary or have you just been waiting for this opportunity to surprise him.

If it's not too much trouble could you please post some details or pictures of what is inside the Omega Chronographs (astronaut cover) brochure. Is there a year printed on it?
I've seen a couple with box sets in the past but not found one for sale on it's own yet.

The Mark II somehow evokes a more romantic notion of space travel in me than the original Speedy Pro. I could totally see the crew of Discovery I or the Icarus wearing this watch

    This is what I have.

PM me with what you need and an offer.

We can stop hijacking Myron's thread then :D

It constantly amazes me how really low offers (in terms of money off the asking price I mean) are often successful on these "Best Offer" eBay listings. I thought that anything less than, say, 20% off would be unsuccessful and maybe a little cheeky, but I think I next time I am inclined to make an offer I will go nice and low the first time. I suppose if you don't ask, you don't get.

Interesting you point that out. I was thinking that it may be a very recent gouge in the caseback. In the picture with the bracelet in the caseback, there doesn't appear to be any marks. Then the seller may have had a go at opening it, thinking that a movement shot would bring more money. We then have the fully exposed caseback with a (?likely) gouge. No service marks on the inside, and a pristine looking movement with intact screw slots throughout.

Indeed. I should have clarified that these were the seller's pics. If this works out, I'll take some of my own. Including of that chrono brochure.

Your Dad will be justifiably proud of his little boy (aren't we all - my Dad still calls me "Boy" and I'm 52 years old FFS)

I think the booklet was printed in 1968, btw. It refers to the Mexico olympics and has "C.68 U.S." on the last page.
