Hello. I'm looking at an Apollo 11 in excellent condition for sale on a very well known website. The asking price is 22K. There isn't a whole lot to compare sales to as it's pretty rare. 22k seems extremely high though. Has Extract from 1971, all original, looks almost new. I'd appreciate any thoughts/opinions anyone has. I'm new to this site and am pretty much a Speedmaster rookie but learning fast. Thanks!

Pics? Link? etc. People need to know more about the watch to give a value.

Mods deleted it. I don't get the reasoning behind the rules but it's their site. All I can say is it's in excellent condition, completely original, Extract 1971. Apollo XI case back. For sale in Turin, IT. Asking 18,500 Euro or about 22k USD.

It took me a second to translate “Apollo 11 » watch from 1971… but here it is.

Speedy Moon straight writing!

Service bezel for sure, and no pics of movement, of the extract of the archives nor of the inside of the case back. 😒

EDIT: well, not so fast! Per my post below, the bezel seems to be as expected for a 145.022-69 ST…

Thanks. Yeah, that's it. According to my Moonwatch only book it's pretty rare. They sent me a pic of the extract that isn't on that site. It's legit. You bring up a good point though. They took the time to remove the caseback but not include a pic of the movement. That is odd. However, I've seen their independent website and they are for sure a reputable dealer in Turin. Again, I'm novice at this. Why do you think that is an after market/replacement bezel? if so, does it matter? If it's period correct and from Omega, does that devalue the watch much? Thanks again.

Actually, o stand corrected as I made a mistake in my original assessment. For whatever reason I though that the bezel was still supposed to be fitted with a DON bezel… but a quick check in my Moonwatch Only book reminded me that the bezel should indeed be a Type B2: Dot close to 70 AND narrow C… which the pictures of the dealer DO show. So all seems to be well with the bezel. My apologies with the unnecessary concerns raised.

Clearly you were smarter than I in getting the book out PRIOR to commenting. 🤦

On the other hand, to answer your general question: if one is about to spend this level of money on a vintage watch, then as much as the parts should be original to the watch as possible, and no matter what, they should all be period-correct at least.

Seeing pictures of the movement would also be helpful to confirm that all checks out. Nothing more or less.
Did you request these from the dealer?

The price is pretty insane to be honest. While that is a rare variant it isn’t “that” rare. I’d say keep on looking.

It does look very nice however the price is rediculous…the ‘rare’ thing is just a caseback, that nobody sees anyway, as it’s touching the wrist being worn. There are many thousands of -69 (it’s to my experience the most plentiful of the pre-90s Speedmasters). Condition is nice, but you could pick up a similar condition -69 for about half that (and even that is expensive).

It sounds overpriced by about $15k but what do I know.
