I wonder if Omega have confirmed in that email from the extract team (yet again different rules for auction houses than you or me 🙄) that in the early 1990s they were working on a Monza dial model but this watch, with a movement not seen until 1996 has had its DOB massaged to fit the story better (and of course its serial number removed since that would disprove the story.)

I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole. The annoying this is that the mere act of being sold at Phillips will give it some undeserved credence, the dial might be legit (and a sample as mentioned above), but I bet the watch isn't.

What is the problem ? Singer Reps had books full of prototype design dials to drum up business..Speedmaster Blancs printed with designer ideas. Same with all Swiss manufacturers. And quite a few of these sample books surfaced for sale . Remember the Tudor chrono dials in different colour schemes, that Watchco auctioned ? Or the white dial Rolex Submariner variants, that fetched mega $$$$$..... Paired with era correct movements and cases and , voila, the Prototypes were auctioned. Like Phillips now calls that " never commercialized..." Nothing new . Part of the investment cycle in vintage Watches. Original Singer dial. Period correct watch. Married. Auction material. Brilliant.

Can you describe these sample books in more detail, did they produce a palette of dial ideas and present it all together?

To be fair, we all thought that Dr. Crott (?) Speedmaster prototype with rotating bezel was a fake prototype, and then the movement with same S/N showed up on the Omega website.
