    Hi all,

Developing a fondness for the Cal 1152 Japanese market Speedmasters (MK40/Reduced/Date?), and just wondered if anyone had any buying advice?

There are two reversions from what I have seen: ref. 3513.33.00 = white dial, ref. 3513.53.00 = black dial.

The white is under ref: ST 375.0083

    The black... ?

    Any help/extra info/warnings/advice most welcome.

These are called the Speedmaster Date, reduced is the 39mm non-date and MK40 its the triple date. These are great watches, movement is easy as can be to maintain, and the dials are quite interesting, especially that top one with its alternating patterns.

Thanks for clarifying... half the people selling don't seem to be able to decide what to call these watches.

I'm tempted to go after both of the versions above... 2016 goals. ;)

Interestingly (to me at least) it looks like these were not Japanese market specific...

I was placing that belief on various posts online, and the details in this rather ace article from @Robert-Jan : http://www.fratellowatches.com/spee...c-3513-53-00-for-the-japanese-market-in-1996/ (which is what drew me in, in the first place, and made me really want one! :D).

But it looks like these were sold in other places too, judging by this 1996 US market brochure: http://www.old-omegas.com/speedy96.html

Wonder where the idea of them being Japanese comes from?

I don't know, and that puzzled me too. I have the 3210 and I love it. You might find this thread from WUS informative http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/new-me-speedmaster-date-3511-50-a-527259.html

Good read that, thanks Garv. :)

Irrespective of whether or not they are Japanese market, I still think these Guilloché dialled 1152s are pretty darned cool.

Having trouble deciding between white or black... would having both be wrong?

I once did a lookup on the Omega Extranet searching on all models that used the Cal. 1151 movement. I think there were over 200 references going from my memory, so there are a pile of watches Omega made with the 1151 and 1152 movements...

    Cheers, Al

Yea its staggering, the number of obscure ones in regional markets too it huge, same goes for the reduced almost every colour combination one could want and a few that nobody would ever want :)

    Blimey.

I think the references change depending on dial/strap/bezel from what I've seen?

So for the two above (pseudo Japanese), there are 4 references (2 dials, strap or bracelet)...

If anything changes, such as using a strap instead of a bracelet, it is a different reference number. But of course changes to dials, bezels, hands, case materials, etc will also be a different reference.

I have the black dial version, love it! It was my first "quality" watch, I got as a college graduation gift to myself. I'm a big car/racing guy and something about the pattern of the "gullioche" and color combo just fit for me.

I believe they are larger than a "reduced" and smaller than a "professional", perfect for me. I rarely see another in forums, etc, and have never seen another in real life (but it's so rare to see any Swiss mechanical in real life that's not a surprise)

Just arrived - it needs 4 links to fit me (in place of the 4 1/2 links that are fitted).

So just a month to wait for them to arrive into my local Boutique.

This watch is lovely in the metal.
