Speedmaster Mk II 145.014 Greenish Tritium Dial

Hello all, I just got a 145.014

It has a slightly greenish tritium dial(T SWISS MADE T)
but the tritium color on the hands is pretty normal.

I'm not sure if it's a repaint or a service dial.
The lume looks clean and flat, doesn't look like it's been restored.

Like the hands, dial lume only glows for a few seconds.

Aside from some water damage on the edge, the dial looks like new.
Does anyone know anything about this dial?


Also this watch comes with a movement cover (096FE0037). I'm not sure if this is correct.
Does the MKIIs have a movement cover like regular moonwatch?

Tritium from early 1970s is often this minty green color. And with hands more yellow different lume. I have -69 from 1970 like this

It’s quite normal.

Here’s mine, which was delivered within Switzerland on the 17th of November 1972.

You should be really careful handing these parts with your fingers, without fingercots. You might make the damage on the dial edge bigger, with the humidity coming from your fingers. Also, there is a huge fingerprint on the antimagnetic cover.

This lume colour is quite typical on 70s Speedmasters so don't worry for that.

Yeah. Every time I see a picture like that, I shudder. I see a large number of vintage watches for sell where the seller shows off the movement this way. Nope!

it's just been serviced, my watchmaker sure there's no moisture or fingerprints left inside.


I'd also like to know about the movement cover.
I've seen some restore videos, and it seems many MKIIs don't have that cover?

Can I ask you a question? Is the tritium on the dial brighter than the one on the hands?

A few years ago, at an industry fair, I heard a story about original dials, with the words T Swiss T, which had remained in stock without tritium.

When they changed from tritium to the Luminova, they were given into supply, as spare parts.

I personally saw an MK II racing with that T Swiss T dial, but with the Luminova indexes.

This sotry, if true, also reminds me a bit of the transitional dials mounted on the Rolex Explorer II 16570 (of which I have one) that had been "recycled" just like this.

Even if there the Explore II story is very different: they were not supplied later as a replacement, but they left the house exactly that way.

Thank you, yes I was also perplexed when I saw the dial, which certainly came out of the factory that way, that is, it had not been retouched with luminova (this is easy to see in the retouched dials) and I took pictures, I hope to find them.

I got a 145-012-67 with the same greenish tritium fully original no discussion on it, more stable but less desired .
