    Hi All,

I'm currently re-building a vintage Speedmaster Mark II.

I've got a complete case (crystal already installed), a NOS 1861 movement, enlargement ring, and full set of hands.

As far as I can work out I also need a couple of case clamps and screws, but is there anything else I'll need in order to get the watch ticking?

    Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks and apologies tyrantlizardrex, I've got all of them too.

    Slight oversight there.

If anything it will be something inside the watch, not sure if I need Gaskets etc.

There should be a dial washer (very thin/foil), part 1298 that is often overlooked. Possibly with your watch movement, but make sure its there!

    Thanks very much Northernman!

Exactly the sort of info I'm after.

Would you not be better with an 861, preferably one that was originally in a MKii?
On a separate note, did all MKii Speedmasters have case clamps, or did some have the same arrangement as a Moonwatch, with a dust cover providing the pressure to hold the movement in place? I'm sure I've seen both, but maybe the Moonwatch setup was a later 'bodge'?

Here's a list of case parts for the 145.014. No dust / movement cover mentioned.

Yep, that and the last item on the list "casing clamp" are probably big clues that it uses casing clamps. :)

Definitely would have preferred an 861, but found a NOS 1861 for a price too good to refuse. One day I'll give the watch the proper treatment (case refinish, original movement etc) when funds allow, but for now I just want to wear the thing!

If it is a stainless steel one, hopefully it has the inner bezel (a silver coloured ring) under the crystal or you are pretty much screwed.

Thanks Northernman. Definitely difficult to tell from my photo. The case came with crystal already installed, so I'm hoping it's in there. I've done just about all I can at this stage so hopefully the watchmaker can fill in the blanks.

Ofrei may have these in stock. I assume they can also be found "In the wild".
    Good luck!

I reckon the inner bezel is already in there - the angled ring directly under the crystal in this photo.
    Does that look right?

    Yes. It looks fine.
Have you considered having the case re-grained? The original brush pattern of the case seems to have been polished away.

    Cheers!

Definitely on the agenda as the case has been polished quite heavily.

Member @photo500 has done fantastic work on a couple of Chronostop cases for me.
If he has the capacity then he comes with warm recommendations!
