Just chiming in here. I've had a beautiful j/m Holzer on my speedy, but I've added a new notched silicone stap. I think it flows beautifully from the case. I have a black one with red stiching as well. These fit perfectly and I think they rate. Currently loving the orange colour. Changes things a bit. Some hints of another dial perhaps..... Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Nice strap! Can you tell me the supplier? Might want to try one.

Sure. Sectime. UK mob I think. On ebay. Notched silicone straps. They fit beautifully in the lug. Cheers.

Agreed. I’ve been kicking myself ever since. Of course it’s been about 18 years I think.
Ugh- you could buy one for the cost of a nice dinner out back then 🤦

IIRC, they MKIIs were produced from 69 until about 72.

I miss my "racing dial" MKII. It always got comments from passersby. Mine had the original sunburst case finish as well. Truly gorgeous.

Would like another eventually, but they don't come up often.

Cheers
This one early 70's. Forget the rest. Mk2 are true sleepers.

I've been wanting one of these for ages, but was waiting for the stars to align... and they did. Very happy!

Got my vintage Mark II back with the sapphire crystal fitted.

Did a pressure test too, didn't make it all the way to 100m, but get far enough to know its splash proof.

I am planning to rebuild a standard mark II from the ground up... I was tempted to get this -expensive- sapphire crystal :

https://tmwatchco.com/product/omega-speedmaster-145-014-sapphire-crystal/

I noticed some here have it on their watch. I often found aftermaket sapphires quite shiny/reflective and I am not sure I would like that. Is there any AR coating on this one? What is your experience?
Can't vouch for those crystals but can direct you to a thread that is worth reading before you consider crystal replacement on a Mk ii as it is not as straight forward as you might feel. Having done it myself I can confirm that. Have a read of this thread and those mentioned within it. Good luck with the project

I got one of these and had an independent horologist who specialises in vintage stuff fit it.
He didn't report any problems and as it comes with all gaskets, it is a good upgrade.
In nearly five years of ownership I had gone through two OEM mineral crystals and was getting rightly peeved at the way they would scratch and chip.
My 72 watch is more or less a daily wearer and is splash proof but not swim suitable.

The sapphire glass is a big upgrade and I don't think there is an claim from TM Watch that there is an AR coating but I haven't noticed any issues with glare or highly reflectivity.

If you want to wear a Mark II as a daily, I would highly recommend this.

That was my idea indeed: the case has not been refinished and shows honest wear, a good candidate for a daily.
