Speedmaster DSOM Apollo 8?

I'm pretty new to the Omega world and this will be my first post here!

I’m looking for my next everyday watch and I’m set on a Speedmaster because I like the brand and I like the history of the model.

I’m actually looking at the DSOM Apollo 8 in particular because of its very unique dial design, the lumes and the ceramic case. It looks fantastic, I don't there is anything else like it.

I have several questions before I pull the trigger:

Prices are all over the place, but you can find good deals online. Is this watch been replicated? I’d like to avoid any scam of course.

The watch is 44mm and my wrist might be borderline too small at 6.75”, has anybody tried this model with a similar wrist?

My second choice would be a classic Speedmaster Professional, 1861 or 3861 which I tried on, it fits really well at 42mm.

The DOSM seems to sell a lot slower than the classic, so it worries me about the resale value if someday I want something else.

Any advice on my next speedy?

Retail on these is $9,750 in the US, prices on C24 for US sales are $8,700 to $11,000, depending if they are new or used, complete sets or not. Not likely that this watch could be faked to fool anyone, it's quite unique. I don't think long term these will drop too much in value, eventually it will be discontinued since it has been in production for about four years and they are going coaxial in the Speedmaster line now, this one and the Alinghi are the only old style movements left. I don't think these wear particularly large, it's fine on my 7.5" wrist so it would probably be ok on your size wrist.

It's a beautiful and unique piece, I wouldn't stress too much over the size. Whether replicated or not, shop the seller and not the watch. Only buy from a very reputable source or you may regret it for a number of reasons. That is for every watch, every time.

Good advices here, thank you.
For the manual movement, that'd be my first manual watch, so I'm not sure what to expect.
It seems like some like to have to interact with the watch, others don't like this.
I also looked at automatic speedy including the reduced, they seem to be on the thicker side though...

You can find one for sale in the "watches for sale" section here. There are many good sellers on the forum. Ask questions and buy from someone here if you feel comfortable with them.

Good luck getting your watch!

Im a 6.5 wrist and the A8 wears a little big on me tbh. Still love wearing it.

I have a 1861 and a 3861 also. I would recommend the 3861 first and the 1861 as a close second for a daily driver. Way more versatile and wearable for smaller wrists vs A8. The A8 can be hard to read, and is ceramic so can chip if hit right.

I own a A8 (it was my first omega) and still very happy with my choice.
I've heard from an OB that it's now out of production so if you get a good deal on one still available I would take it.

I'd also recommend getting the titanium deployment clasp 😀 heres a picture of my one.

Well... I purchased a Speedmaster 3861 Sapphire Sandwich and that'll be my first Omega. The watch should arrive sometime this week and I'm really really excited to have it.
But.... still looking for the Apollo 8... and I agree, the clasp is a nice option and even more important when wearing a Ceramic watch and it does look good.

Congrats. I have an Apollo 8 ( and other Omegas ). I am a huge fan of the style and features and have no plans to sell it. . . . but I would not have bought it as an everyday watch.

Honestly, its pretty hard to read the time is many situations. The actual hands are pretty thin and sometimes disappear into beautiful details on the face. You sort of have to get used to it to read it.

The Speedmaster 3861 is, in my opinion, a better daily watch . . . because its much more legible. But I still never tire of looking at the Apollo 8.

Congratulations again.

My wrist is around 6.1 inches. It’s a bit big but I am fine with it. This my first Omega and I really like this watch.
After A8, I bought the CK859. I have other watches like PP , VC, Rolex… But the A8 always keep with me because this is such a beautiful and unique design watches. Go for it.

My only concern buying pre-owned would be the case having some chips and the seller not mentioning it. I know that the ceramic case is pretty much scratch resistant but it can be chipped. I know because a friend of mine chipped his DSOTM and it’s basically the same case. He took it to Omega and a replacement case was 6k (USD). I have an Apollo 8 and it is amazing but I would not buy one pre-owned with out inspecting it in person.

Agreed - I would also ask the seller to take photos of the inside lug holes - chips in this area can happen and are easily overlooked.

I bought my DSOTM preowned and made sure to inspect the condition in the photos. You can always ask for a detailed video showing the condition, or jumping on a video call with the seller can help.

Did the standard A8 strap hook right up to the deployany claspor did you need to get a different strap?

It is a different strap for the deployant, I swapped mine out for the deployant version too.

thank you. i have one of these watches inbound and I prefer deployants over pin buckle. i don't have an AD or OB anywhere near me so I'll need to find a resource online.

Just mail your nearest AD/OB, online (reseller) will be more expensive for sure.
