I have been asked several times recently about the steps on Speedmaster dials.

For those of us lucky to have seen and held many Speedmasters its easy and this page won't be for you. For those who want an idiots guide to dial steps, here you are:

https://speedmaster101.com/blog/dials-what-are-we-looking-at/

Here is a valuable dial with no step as no thread complete without pictures.

PS The one thing I could not lay my hands on easily, were good examples of photos where the watch did have a step, but the photo disguised it.

If you have anything like that, can you post them? A Stepped dial that doesnt show in the photo...

Thanks, as always, for the great pictures and descriptions. Very helpful as I get ready for my first vintage Speedy purchase. The damaged dial “hidden” by the crystal was pretty eye opening, really was surprised how well the damage was minimized in the photos.

For me, the Steps on the dial are easier to see if the watch is held at an angle, rather than straight-on.

Beaten old 64 Ed White

In a different light dial turns grey and a step appears. Still beaten. But I love her.
