Dunno if this has been posted before, but I was reminded of this chap recently who does custom painted dials.

I'm sure it'll divide opinion but I can't help liking some of his work, especially the more subtle ones. No affiliation.

I like it!

This is from the website

  • The Dial Artist is Chris Alexander, and only Chris Alexander
  • Chris thinks he is cool
  • Chris is not cool
  • Chris has a beautiful wife and 2 beautiful girls
  • They all agree, Chris is not cool
  • Chris is not actually an artist, he is more 'lucky' than 'artistic'
  • Chris is internationally known as 'The Dial Artist'
  • Chris likes to think he is internationally known as 'The Dial Artist'
  • Chris has a dog
  • Chris has a Gluten intolerance...
  • ...and potentially a Diary intolerance.
  • Chris loves talking art to artists who know what they are talking about whilst all along Chris is winging-it and hasn't got a clue what a hue or tonal value is.

  • Chris loves watches
  • Chris loves watches
  • Chris loves watches
  • Chris has a habit of repeating himself
  • Chris loves watches
  • A Munro is any mountain in Scotland with a height over 3,000 feet (914.4m)
  • Chris loves to make purists cry
  • Chris collects purists tears to sell on the dark web and black market for gummy-bears
  • The gummy-bears contain gluten
  • Chris knows people - like actually knows them
  • However, none of them are important unless you want a good deal on your energy supply
  • Chris will make you a cool watch dial = you become cool
  • Trust me, the watch dials are actually really cool

  • Chris is still not cool
  • Each watch dial is 100% hand painted - by Chris and he uses is actual hands...and some very small brushes
  • Chris is 99% powered by coffee and 1% by natural gas
  • Chris will not tell you what paint he uses, not matter how famous your momma is
  • Don't be a sad-act and copy Chris - do something original and unique you loser
  • Chris is based in Scotland.
  • Scotland is based in the UK
  • The UK isn't sure where it wants to be based
  • Chris wrote this in the third-person
  • The third-person thinks Chris is cool
  • Chris is the third-person
  • Chris loves sarcasm...he thinks!?
  • Yes, Chris can think...
  • ...he thinks!?

I hope you are not calling those 2 examples subtle. I know Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But in this case it ain’t in my eyes.

This is not meant disrespectful, but both watches look like kindergarden LE's to me.

Why don’t you give the name of actual insurer so all here can make up their own mind as wether or not to use the services of this insurer? Maybe the seller would be better off dealing directly with the insurer?
Hmmm, probably wrong thread?

Nope. But seeing as this is the Omega Forum I figured I'd post a couple of the Omegas he's done.

Yeah, I'm curious. "not expensive" was the reply when I asked someone on another forum, who had 'his' & 'hers' watches done..

He signed up on this forum a year or so ago.
But I haven't seen anything from him in some time...
I always thought they were pretty cool.

I wonder how secure all that paint splatter is. All you need is one or two pieces to get loose to wreak havoc on the dial and/or movement.

Ah didn't realise that. Seems to be doing steady trade, if all the pics on his site are anything to go by.

Yes I wondered the same; and also crucially how colour-fast the paint is? Colours around the red end of the spectrum are fugitive, and prone to fading - sometimes fairly rapidly - with exposure to UV, without some sort of UV protection.

Would say it’s pretty stable, it’s secret paint and that’s usually a good paint 😉

Dripping?
One of my favourite artists wearing one of my favourite watches at work.
Not really, since Jackson Pollock (1912 - 1956) couldn't have owned this Speedmaster ST 105.003 (1964).
😉

Almost think it would look cool/futuristic on one of those Zenith Defy skeletonized watches. Interesting look but can’t quite adjust to seeing an old Speedmaster with that look but I love the idea of thinking differently!

Dropping in years after the fact... but did you create this image, or, if not, do you remember where you found it? Was it from an advertisement? It seems to have been modified from one of the famous photographs by Martha Holmes for the feature in Life Magazine about Pollock in 1949. Seeing as you note Pollock as a favorite, I'm sure you already know both the Holmes and the Hans Namuth photos. Anyway, here is the reference photograph pre-modification: with all that empty wrist available!
