As a Professional only guy, I was shocked to catch myself trolling the internet for the possible Day-Date purchase.

    What's come over me???

Nothing, they're fine machines. There is a whole world out there besides the Pro. I've had a Speedy date and just picked up the acrylic reduced, they're perfect. The pro always sat a little too large on me even after I gave it a go in 2010.

Some of omegas best stuff is in the Speedmaster line

Day-Dates are great. I'm looking for one myself.

If you get one, they are built quite differently to a Pro, but the ETA 7750 base used in these models is stellar.

And no - all the watches I have seen have had sapphire crystals - the way the case is constructed, an acrylic crystal would not work.

Al - is the Lemania 5100 (used in the 176.0012 i think ??) as good?

    Thanks.

In my view as a watchmaker, no. I know many people prefer them due to the central minute recorder though.

Of course, the 376.0822 is a good option, if you care to spend a few $$$

    I believe it's hesalite

When I think of the date or day date models, I'm thinking of the more recent models with the 7750's (in the modern section in particular) But if you are including these then yes they come with plexi, unlike the modern watches that are sapphire.

The more modern versions are great daily beaters with the sapphire crystal they stay looking sharp more easily. I know they aren't a moon watch but mine does have a twelve hour chrono and I even know the day of the week if I'm ever stuck on a remote island.
