Speedmaster Day Date power and accuracy issue

First post so please excuse my ignorance!

Just acquired a Speedmaster 39mm Day Date Chronograph in black. Did not come with manual papers or box so still learning but did find manual online to familiarize myself with the operation and settings.

Wound watch prior to first day of wear (around 25 or so turns) and everything seemed to work perfectly- date and time set easily and stayed accurate- chronograph ran smoothly- was very pleased. Wore approx 10 hours and removed.

Skip to day two- watch was dead next morning (stopped at 2am) so repeated winding and went about my day. Around 6 hours in it’s running slow- have been moving quite frequently so found that odd but wound again (20 turns or so) and went on. This time when winding it was somewhat “tight” and would catch then release at certain points.

Watch made it until around 9pm and was dead. Wound again and it ran fine. Next morning same problem. Now winding seems to get it around 1 hour of run time- wearing it will continue to run but is off appx 5 mins per 3 hours. Laying on desk dead if I touch or shake the watch it will run for 30 or so seconds then stop again.

Anyone have a suggestion other than shipping to an omega shop? And Thanks in advance for your help to a newbie!

Wind the crown about 50 turns or so, set it to time, wear it for an FULL 24-hours, and get back to us with a report on performance. From a run down state (stopped)! It would likely require 24-hours on the wrist of an active wearer for the watch to wind fully. A sedentary wearer who wears it only for short periods? It likely will never wind fully. Note to a new owner. If a watch with a fault stops when wound, it will likely STAY stopped, and won’t start up when you handle it.

Thanks for your help!

Update- I wound watch the 50 full turns (still makes a “click” then crown tension somewhat releases on each turn). Worn for full 24 hours- noticed it began running slow (3 mins behind) at appx 4 hours. When removed the next morning it was stopped. Wound again the full 50 turns and Placed on watch winder for the next day and overnight- unit was again stopped the next morning.

Just Wound again the full 50 turns (crown tension still feels tight then clicks and somewhat releases each turn)- reset time- and is currently 4 mins slow after 2 hours of wear.

Are you able to return it? You’re in for an expensive service I’m afraid!

Update- The dealer opted to “repair” when they received it back - 5 days later was told it had a bezel replacement, full sapphire replacement, full service and polish. I Received it back today- does not appear the crystal is new, inside of watch appears foggy compared to my other units- but wound from a completely dead state for 40 turns at which point it began the same physical clicking and releasing again- assumed it was the clutch releasing but once again never felt or heard that as pronounced before. I set time and placed on watch winder next to my 323.30.40.40.01.001 and Carrera with identical time- 2 hours in it’s already 4 minutes slow. Leaning towards insisting on full refund unless anyone thinks this is normal for the model/age?

Well it’s normal for a watch that hasn’t been serviced in years to run like crap, yes. That’s what this sounds like. In fact these have cheaper service options than some similar looking smaller Speedmasters but that really shouldn’t be your problem. Return it for a refund. Your seller isn’t being truthful.

Never having this problem before- and not being a real watch guy- what is your opinion on the “clicking/grinding” feel and noise when wound to a certain point? Clutch not operating properly or something else? Seller is fairly reputable online and I assumed sending back for a week plus their supposed replacement of other parts was done in sincerity of an innocent miss on their part- but coming back with the same issues is hard to believe they ever actually repaired anything.
