3.5k USD for a box with a bad redone insert. Ridiculous. That’s gonna be a heavy noob tax 🤦

I'm bookmarking that auction for the next time someone asks me why there are empty watch boxes in my safe.

What years did Omega sell Speedmasters with these boxes?.
Is there a comprehensive Speedmaster box thread?.

I know it’s supply and demand, but that’s bonkers.
There are many examples of beautiful, finely crafted, Swiss engineered timepieces you could buy for the same price as a small cardboard box...

Well…the Seller is a Forum Member

The description is 100% accurate…and the auction appears entirely legitimate

No one was compelled to buy it…One must assume this is ‘Market Forces’, in play

I am sure all current original box owners,… now see this as a benchmark price guide

Is it really? Why do you think so?

🙄 Well it's a classic cube, lunar themed convenient size, small enough for a wrist watch... but too small to put a pair of shoes in as in today's Speedmaster boxes!

So this one is worth 10k now?

I think I know a good handful of people who would certainly even pay more than that for this one in a good conservation condition 😉

Trade three for one? 😁

Yes, but a pair of #6 endlinks would be more; a flat link bracelet is in the same ballpark; want a nice custom watch winder?

This hobby is expensive (rather, it can easily become expensive if you allow it to). A large number of collectors are always chasing a finite number of watches. When you and all your friends finally get BA145.034s then you need to find all the ancillaries to "one-up" the group.

I've just got to say it. Watch collectors can be really STUPID.
Can?

There, fixed it for you. Most funny thing I saw in the collecting world was a set of vintage Leica M (body + lenses) in factory packaging, still sealed. Meaning that to see the damn things you had to put them on a xray machine (also to check that you did not get sold a brick in expensive packaging). Of course, opening the boxes = losing 10k or so.
