Speedmaster Chronoscope in the flesh

Hi, everyone. Happy Monday and an early Speedy Tuesday to you all.

I received a very pleasant text from my OB this afternoon to come see the new Speedmaster Chronoscope novelties that came in. I had signed up to purchase one as soon as the pieces came in.

Three models came in, all stainless steel models with the new bracelets.

I figured I should share this with you all rather than hold on to the joy alone.

First, we have the blue dial. Absolutely mesmerizing in person.

While the case size is 43mm, the lug-to-lug is a surprising 48mm. The case is thinner than that of the 3861 sapphire so it wears very well.

Unfortunately, 42mm is my limit.

It’s too big.

Next up, we have the panda dial. Quite the layout here.

then we have the silver dial with the blue subdials. The color combo already exists with the SMP 300 but I like the execution on this more.

Now, we have the improved Speedy clasp with a two-position adjust. It’s a push and pull design with two positions as you can see below.

Position 1

position 2

The clasp “should” be compatible with the 3861 bracelets but it is not available for a separate order just yet.

finally, the caseback.

after seeing these pieces, I did not pull the trigger as I had intended before because… they were simply too big for me. Should I gain weight, I will reconsider.

the bronze gold model hadn’t arrived so i hope to see it at a later time.

Huge thanks to Omega for giving me a heads up about this.

Thanks for sharing the pics! The blue one looks amazing. But the watch looks massive on your wrist. I'm used to wear 40mm watches max, with the wrist size just over 6 inches. How big is yours?

That has to be the tackiest watch they've ever made. 60s bezel and pushers, 40s dial, modern numerals and hands. Like they got in the design room and said "How would you design a brand new $9,000 watch that looks like a bad parody of an eBay franken?". Barf!

equivalent to fender pawn shop special series
(by the way, fender also used to make limited editions, anniversary series every other week as well)

Thanks for the pictures.
I think they won't be overdemanded. And new clasp with only 2 positions doesn't convince me either.

I will admit that the real life pictures aren't as bad as the initial renders were, but still the design is not exactly coherent in my view.

I like the dials, so that's not an issue at all - it just looks very out of place in that case, with a bezel stuck on it like a modern Speedmaster.

If I didn't know this came from Omega, I would probably call it a fake it looks so off.

I agree, all-around.we can start with a 40s inspired watch that’s 50mm

Why did they go to the effort to make a quick adjust clasp but with only 2 positions?

Have to admit I had very mixed feelings towards this wannabe Moonwatch in dressy disguise. Had, indeed, as it looks so much better in the metal!

I am sure my crappy camera skills won’t do this watch any more justice than Omega’s images do, but hey, here we go, still. 😀

(My Snoopy needs a similar bracelet, I believe. 😗)

Has anybody pulled the trigger on one of these yet ?

I have the panda version on order from my AD. I ordered a couple months ago, but didn't realize it would take this long. I ordered about the same time as my 3861 which I've already recieved. I guess Omega isn't pumping them out like the 3861's. I actually sold my Tudor Chronograph to make room for the Chronoscope. My dealer received a Blue dial in a few weeks ago. Tried it on but wasn't in love with it, decided to wait for the Panda.

I really like the dial. Really interesting (imo) that 48mm lug to lug is an instant turn off to me though. I had a beautiful seiko one of the limited ones with a funky dial I really liked it was 47 or 48mm lug to lug I thought it just seemed too flashy. Didn’t help the watch was gold tone of course. Maybe stainless would cut that flash that bothered me. Ya like I’d say no to an omega like that. I won’t be buying one just wouldn’t say no to it that dial is killer.

I like all of them. They are easy to see the time at a a quick glance, but all the small print in the various rings evades the focus of my aging eyes. The entire dial would be focused better if I had my 25 year-old eyes back.

Here is my main issue: the lack of contrast between dial and hands. Plus, the light in this picture looks decent.

I like the blue one a lot, but the case just bothers me. It seems like its too "fat"
Not sure how to describe it. Maybe its just the mix of vintage style face + modern case.

IMHO way too large and a dial that gives me a headache ... what's next ?
50 mm lug-to-lug ?
