    Hello all,
    I have purchased a Speedmaster 3750.50 (2002).
The chronograph second hand does not have a smooth run and appears to “stagger” slightly.
    Any advise appreciated.

What do you mean by stagger? There may be a small jump in the hand when pressing START as well as a small jump when pressing STOP. Aside from that, it should just tick away in lock-step with the small seconds hand.

First mechanical watch? The Omega 1861 movement runs at 21,600 beats per hour, so that translates to being able to visually see the seconds hand move 6 times per second. You're not going to see a 100% smooth seconds hand without getting a Seiko Spring Drive or one of those Bulova Precisionist quartz watches.

Try looking at it in daylight or under an incandescent bulb. I just tried today's watch (Heuer / Valjoux 7730) under a mix of LED and laptop screen and saw something similar. I know my watch's movement is in very good shape.

It’s not only that the chrono hand move 6 times per second. The gears also have som backlash that influence the movement of the hand. More if the movement has som wear.

    Hello,
I don’t know when the last service was done.
I purchased the watch from Watchfinder.
Their website says the watch’s are thoroughly checked before selling.

In the past when I thought I saw an issue I took a video, takes out the possibility of your eyes playing tricks.

If you bought from Watchfinder I presume you are UK based? As you say Watchfinder will check but not carry out a service unless they have to. I'd recommend Swiss Time Services, I've just got my Speedmaster back from service there and really pleased.

It is a reworking of an old quote from a British Prime Minister and quite probably older than that. Meaning that everyone with a position to show or something to sell you cannot be relied on to tell you the truth.

    Hi,
Sent the watch back to Watchfinder who were very prompt and diagnosed the fault as too much play in the chronograph hand movement. They returned the watch promptly and it runs perfectly now, very good customer service on this occasion.

Wow, that's great news! A seller who stands by their product and makes the customer happy, nice to hear. I'm glad it all worked out.
