I found a Speed master Apollo XVII 40th Anniversary 311.30.42.30.99.002 for around 5k. What are your thoughts? Is this a good price? Profitable price?

New? Used? Grey Market? With box and papers? Just some variables that can make a difference. Profitable? Probably not. But at least you won't lose too much when you go to flip it. Just my $0.02

As long as you like it, great. It's a little hard to tell the time or read the chronograph, but maybe that's just me.

It's better to post more pictures and details..no one can tell you if it's a good deal from a stock picture..at least not me :)

They still have these sitting around at Omega Boutiques. Not a very popular LE.

Good point. I saw this in an AD in Las Vegas and San Francisco (TB) within the last month.

Used to own one... for a week! Try reading the time at a quick glance.

The fact they are sitting in boutiques and AD's tells the story!

Not one of Omegas prouder moments in capitalizing on the Speedmaster name

It would be considered used but unworn. And no it does not sing to me; the whole point of buying it would be to make a profit but if the community doesn't feel like there is a strong market for it I won't bother.

Coming on a forum and telling watch enthusiasts (30,000 of them) that you main point is to buy stuff to make profit. Is not a great idea in your first few posts ;)

And asking us what is a good watch to make profit on without doing your own due diligence and research is even a touch more cheeky :whistling:

I never once said my main point of being on this forum is to buy stuff and make a profit. I just simply saw this particular watch thought it seemed like a good price and after doing my "due diligence" I found that there just doesn't seem to be that many so I thought I would ask here. It appears that the community pretty much has the same conclusion that I have, it's not a practical watch, so the only reason I would buy it would be to pass it on.

It's one of those "friend of a friend" situations so it was just easier for me to grab a pic from the web. It was gift and he wants to sell it...wants 5k could probably talk him down to 4500.
