Speedmaster 145.022, advice needed!

Hi there guys
I've been offered a Speedy and the seller has been very honest in saying that there are clearly features of the watch that don't match so here's the specs.

Ref 145.022 71 ST
Cal 861

Serial dates it to 1968 (26 million) but it has the moon landing case back which is obviously not right as this only happened in 1969.

The bezel is not DON which I believe also makes this later than the serial number suggests.

Is it possible they fitted this watch with an 861 they had in stock for a couple of years?

I'm no Speedy expert so any help would be massively appreciated!

The case back is off Google as I forgot to photograph the actual one

Thanks in advance

HH

Nasty put together using parts from at least 3 different eras. Hands are just plain wrong. Don't go there unless it is as cheap as the parts alone. Having said that, your photos show 3 different watches, one not even a Speedmaster so who knows!

Oops ignore the second movement pic, my mistake.

I think I will just avoid this one then, judging from the response.

Cheers guys

Even ignoring the non Omega chrono stray photo, there are still 2 different Speedmasters shown there, look at the end link numbers.

Wrong more modern dial, wrong hands from a mkII?

decent DNN bezel, early 861 movement.

Yeah I was a bit rushed so forgot to take a pic of the actual case back but the last pic is off Google just to show what the case back looked like.

I have just realised, that first monstrosity you show actually has a very polished straight lug case, presumably a 105.003-6X, very little there in fact has any relation to a 145.022-71, certainly not the case, dial, hands, movement.

So I could it be the case back is wrong and it's actually a completely different reference?

No 1960s straight lug came with a 861 movement. That is a horrible thrown together parts draw watch, it is possible no 2 parts match. You say you are no Speedy expert, I tend to agree. These are fundamentals, go to school on these before you make an expensive mistake!

Damn missed that too lol. In everyone鈥檚 defense the only shot that really shows the chrono pushers is from another watch with crown guards.
