Speedmaster 145.022 69 serial 322XXXXX

Fellow collectors and friends,

I have a question concerning my speedy.
I own a 145.022 69 reference with stepped dial and DON 90 bezel (see foto)
Also the watch features a single bevel case back and a 1039 bracelet.
Recently I opened up the case back and saw the movement number is 322XXXXX.
When I checked the Speedmaster database it shows that the movement is produced in 1974.

Is this watch a frankenstein or is it common to have a later movement in this perticular watch?

Thanks for any help!

Perhaps check on Speedmaster101 (or when I’m I will check moonwatch only), but that serial seems too high for a DON bezel. I believe they transitioned to the 220 bezel around 30,7xxxxx.

Try typing the SN in the "production date query" here:

https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com/productiondateprediction/

I can't make out your complete SN but looks like it may be somewhere around April - June 1972 (numbers I tried are 32208247 and 32298247)

Is it a straight writing case-back? In general, it's good to start right out showing comprehensive photos instead of adding them in a trickle. That way we can help you more easily.

Serial is 32218217 so the movement appears to be produced in July 1972. The case back is pre-moon with only the seahorse and the Omega logo

Not an expert opinion, just a hunch. If the movement was older than the watch one could explain it, but if the watch is older than the movement then it would seem logical the movement is a replacement.

Unless Omega held to finished cases and released at later dates with newer movements?

But notice the movement minus the serial is correct for a 69. It’s not correct for a 72. At least by looking at the parts that changed in that period.

there is something about some 32m serials being out of sequence that seems very familiar…. I just don’t remember where I read it.

Yeah, the 32xxx were found on -69 SW, -71 and -74 according to MWO and SP101

Yes, but according to the OP, he has a -69 that is not a SW. At least that is my interpretation of his posts, which is the best we can do without photos of the case-back.

Unfortunately, the extract will only say 145.022.

It will have a year though… which can validate it

So if it says 1972, what is the conclusion?

The movement is in the wrong case.
