Consider this hypothetical question.
Two Speedmasters laying side by side. Both are 105.012-66. One HF, one CB. Both of equal grade (good or collector). Pricing is identical (per Speedmaster 101).
Which one will you choose to buy and why?

Any guesses how the numbers/responses will be split?

CB because they are rarer and who doesn't like extra facets?

CB because they are rarer

There are actually fewer -66 HFs than CBs, but they're pretty similar to other HF-cased Speedmasters.

Since we also tend to see narrow-spaced T dials in HFs rather than CBs, I prefer the HF - to me, a wide-spaced T AML dial makes me think of a 145.012 or 145.022-68

CB for me (one day, i hope).

There may be more CBs in '66, but there are way more HFs in general. For me, that is the appeal of the CB. I already have HF covered.

CB all day everyday if I saw two equally matched watches, but I'll always opt for the overall higher quality piece.

When viewed from the face, the clean, ridge line on the HF lugs creates a parallel, outer facet that seem easier on my eye. (But then I'm biased)
The CB case ridge line doesn't flow so well.

CB case for me, my watchmaker had one in last week in near NOS condition and the facet make it look bulkier(to me that is).

Do we see a limited edition w/CB case? I think it might be only feature Omega has yet to reissue on a LE.

To me it’s a tie
66CB is cooler but the 66HF is rarer.

But the rarest AND the coolest of all the 105.012 is the first Speedie Pro,
first with the asymmetrical case and with the no TT dial,
The 105.012-63

Here are mine:

The CB case has fatter lugs, kind of reminds me of the change to the Submariner's maxi case.
+! HF
