Speedmaster 105.012-64 Good Buy?

This early Pro Speedmaster ended on eBay last night. Those who like minters can look away now, but I thought it went cheap.

It has original bezel with marmite wear, along with original crown, wide neck pushers and a correct and generally ok looking movement. Yes the hands are horrible and the dial has lost its lume, bit again its original, as is the case.

It's no concourse winner but I think it went at least a grand under where I'd expect it to be. With a service, clean, more suitable strap and possibly a resto on the hands and hour markers it would make an attractive daily wearer.

Did anyone here grab it?

Given prices of the parts, this seems to have been a good buy. Movement, $2500, case probably $2000.

The dial might not be too bad in better light.

Not a fan of that bezel.

don't think 1K+- means good / bad buy. its all about exposure to repair costs and uncertainty of its condition.

I love that bezel. I'm kicking myself for not bidding now.

Maybe it is the over exposed pictures or the ill-fitting strap, but the watch looks anemic. Please post more pics when you get it. I think you got a good price.

A great buy for somebody wanting an early 321.
Case more than decent, bezel way cool, correct pushers/crown. Dial, have seen worse.

IMO a 7k watch.

I bid this up to 4K and bottled it! But don’t forget the 20% customs etc charge 😒 well for UK anyhow.
That bezel though 👍

Does anyone get turned off by the gunk/brown around the edge of a crystal as seen at 6 oclock here?

It has always bugged me when looking at listings but never seen it discussed. Is this easily remedied in servicing?

It's often just the tension ring. You can either clean it or get a new Crystal with tension ring and swap it. Or even easier: dirt between the bezel and the Case/Crystal. So yes, easy to fix in these two cases.

30 seconds in Photoshop, tightening up the contrast, & balancing the colour temperature… gives a far more accurate indication of the Watches condition & colour

I am guessing an item location of Madagascar may have turned off some potential buyers

Very true. As I wasn't actually bidding I didn't notice the location - just saw the currency in Euros and assumed it was EU.

For that type of money, I think there are better options for a daily beater. I don't particularly find this attractive at all. The only thing going for it is the 321 inside.

With how soft the speedmaster market has gotten I think this went for market price.

Yes - remove the crystal and scrape out all the crap that has collected...that is what all the debris is on my bench in this photo:

I'd love to know where you're getting nicer mid 60's Speedmasters for $5k.

Baffles me no NASA is that high and 220’s have little to no bump.

Well for me the NoNasa is very cool, and the 220 bezel is of no interest, at all.
Lucky we all like different things!
But that 145.012 - wow that was a nice dial, even though the plots were a little poor.
The pulsation bezel, that is a conundrum. I personally do not value it, but thats a hell of a price to pay, without a DO90.
