On a side note, it's best not to put bare fingers on the dial; it leaves oils on the surface. That is why you will see photos from Archer and others with their finger covered.

What is this at 9(?)?

It's a recess on the underside of the dial - it's typically there to provide extra clearance where the balance jewels are on the dial side.

That’s what I’m thinking. The BBC did this for example.
Unless he means watches given out as gifts after x years of service. Which would have inscriptions. I call those anniversary watches or retirement watches.

I'm not sure if you're right. If we count military issued watches, I am certain time only-watches are more abundant and even if we aren't, the sheer amount of railway watches meant for particular employees are staggering. Then there are the dive watches utilised by professional outfits. Of course, if we count all digital watches with a chronograph function as chronographs in the traditional sense, they are definitely more common - but that would mean a fair amount of grand complication watches are being handed out 😁

So at the end we have no clue about the symbol ?
What do you mean no clue? Its some random thing that was attached to a once original Omega dial, during its refinishing. This devalues it significantly obviously.

Hi,
Since I am collecting Omega rarities I can help with my watch. And of course it is the steel version with the original dial.

Found this on Chrono24. Also a redial, but it seems like these symbols were part of the original dial furniture.

I don’t think it’s original dial furniture.

I think it was dial furniture available after market for watch makers who refurbished dials.

Well , I’m not an expert but I have the feeling that originally was like this. Already 2 watches a part of my watch showing such symbol . Imagine will be on a Speedmaster…..

Is this anything to do with an Omega Neptune Trident? Although they were on the hour hand, dunno just a thought.

Those indexes are all correct for beginning of the 50ies

Here is a rare (one of 2 known examples) untouched "late" 30 Rg chronometre with the same indexes

Please honor the copyright - the owner wanted to stay anonymus but asked for protecting the photo which is his property.
