If you’re feeling lucky… 😉
If you do feel lucky there is one at West's Garage in Exning Suffolk. I've only seen it from the bus but it's always there. They also have a 1960s Renault 8 or 10, don't know if it's for sale.

Jag XJ8 or XJR.
Same parts as Lincoln V8 so parts easy to get and not $$$$.
Large online support group for DIY.

Beautiful ride, power and luxury. But they are not uberwagens.

+1 for the Stag!
Not there today, so perhaps it's been sold or is in the workshop to fit a nice reliable engine -- such as an NSU rotary....

I did mechanic duties for a Dolomite Sprint on domestic International rallies in the mid 1970s and it had the original engine that was doubled up to make the Stag's V8. The Dolly was very reliable, but the driver (Phil Darbyshire) was not a car breaker and used a very good preparation outfit -- Aldon Automotive. Alan & Don were another of the service crews when they could leave their very active workshop.

Bringing this forward because in 4 pages I still haven't seen anything better. For 10k you can get one than won't be a mechanical nightmare. It's fun to drive, has power and huge aftermarket. They are increasing in value. It won't scare your clients.
If you want older a clean E36 works too.

S sadly this one is sitting and rotting in my parents back yard, interior is full of mould and moisture. One day I’ll probably try to restore it a bit.

I didn't read the whole thread so apologies if this was already mentioned.

You seem to be a Volvo wagon guy. (I've owned several 240s). This should give you that zip feeling.

The search is over. I didn't go vintage but found something I'm familiar with and very happy with my find. Now let the modifications begin...

Consider a late 90’s to early 2000’s R129. Can be had for a decent price. After that, move up to my realm.

Like I mentioned above, I ended up going for a W204.

My daughter will likely inherit it as her first car in a couple of years and hopefully I'll be looking at AMGs by then

Seeing that is giving me repressed memory syndrome, I walked away from a mint top specced CLS550 2015/16 model about 12 months ago which was at a ridiculously low asking price at a local auction dealer, been kicking myself ever since, just looked online a few moments ago and the cheapest available is about 3 and a bit times more ::facepalm1::

Still undefeated for cowl shake.
They vary a surprising amount, I’ve been in some where its absolute awful and others where there is next to none. I have no idea what makes some good and others bad though, it seems almost random.

Indeed! They’re super handsome cars, and fantastic in the sunshine, but that rattle just kills it for me.

Late to the party but for me only W116:

“Monday cars” could be the explanation. 😎

I would have loved to get my hands on an MG and there were a few available but they're just not practical for my current needs
